I do too. This isn't joe-blow company, tihs is Hasbro, an international company with plenty of resources at its disposal. They CAN store individual figures for customer service exchanges, they just choose not to. Sad, but I can deal. But the $3 coupon is just plain silly. It holds no merit at all. If I get a broken Darth Vader figure, all a $3 coupon is going to get me is less than half a shot at trying for another 1:16 lottery to get a new one. And on the flip side, someone with a broken clonetrooper is making out like a champ.

The other problem with their replacement policy is that it actually *encourages* dishonesty among their clientele. Some of us have shelled out good money for some of the super rare figures, and we (or at least, I) view it as only fair that we'd get one back in return.
I wouldn't even be *tempted* to return a "broken" Clone Trooper for the hope of getting something better if I thought that I'd be able to make what would be viewed by most people as a fair trade. As it is, if I don't get a replacement for the figure I sent in, then I'm just gonna have to pay another $8 to replace it anyway; the booster will have done me no good, aside from giving me an even more bloated number of troopers.
And as for playing with them too hard, I might be guilty of that with Mace (though I don't think so, as I play maybe once every three days, and only a couple of games at a time. But maybe I was harsher on Mace when I was writing the review for him that I should have been), but I don't think that I was with Yoda or Ki-Adi-Mundi. Yoda's hand snapped after precisely four strikes, and Ki-Adi-Mundi lasted five strikes before his hand totally sheared off (though battle damage was obvious after two strikes). Dunno...maybe that's what I get for trying to gather enough data to provide good reviews to this site.
But I somehow doubt it, as I've been able to (ab)use Starter Kenobi and Agen Kolar for the review process.

And on the flip side, someone with a broken clonetrooper is making out like a champ. Like I mentioned before, he would find a way to do it anyway. If he is dishonest, not having this policy won't change that. He'll still find a way to break the rules. Sad, but true. But the opposite, the honest customer who FINALLY got a (broken) Yoda after buying 20+ boosters, more than showing his loyalty to the brand and the company, is just out of luck.

This is exactly what I've been trying to say. And statistically speaking (at least, from my research), I'd say that there are many more of the honest customers than the sneaky cheats who'd do whatever they can to profit at someone else's expense. I could even include an item like this on a new verion of our externalizing questionnaire to get a more precise idea about these sorts of base rates

Hasbro now wants you to send in 3 figures for a booster even if one is broken. I have 3 broken super rares because of springs they want to send me one booster. I complained and I'll see what they say on Friday. I think attacktix might die out quickly.

I think attacktix might die out quickly. Sadly, I agree. Not just because of what we've been discussing, but I have a feeling, beyond Wave 2 (if such a thing even comes to fruit), that this product was only released to "hit the iron while it was hot" with Episode 3. If this product is around a year from now still, I'll be the happiest guy around, but I'm not counting on it. Prove me wrong, Hasbro, please! You have a real original idea here that seems to be very popular at the moment! Don't let that, or us fans, go to waste.

Hi. I'm new here.
My broken figure is the Darth Vader from my starter set. I emailed Hasbro and initially they sent me the "standard" reply about sending an entire booster back and a new booster would be sent. I replied and explained this was a starter set figure that isn't even available in a booster. They told me they'd send me a shipping label and to send my entire starter set back for a replacement. I was going to send it along with a nice letter explaining this was a starter set and not a booster, but I'm wondering if people think the customer service dept at Hasbro is smart enough to send me a new starter set and not just a booster. Thoughts?

If I thought contacting them would resolve anything beyond getting a standard form letter, I'd consider it, but sicne Vader and Obi-Wan in the starter are essentially identical, I just took this one on the chin.

If this product is around a year from now still, I'll be the happiest guy around, but I'm not counting on it. To wit, the three delays in the Battle Case release, each time with no warning or explanation. The lack of tournament rules. The lack of the FAQ or Ask The Expert website sections promised in the manual. However, the fact that they at least updated the site to reflect the point values and movements for the Wave 2 is an interesting (if isolated) couter-indication that they're going to keep it alive. And just to reiterate, when I called yesterday, they asked only for the single defective figure to be returned to replace it with a booster pack. The more I think about this, the more I want to call them and journalistically escalate the call until I get to a source that can provide good answers.

Hmmmm. Here's a direct quote from the email I received from Hasbro customer service today:
"Unfortunately, the figures are not available separately. We will proceed with sending you the prepaid shipping label."
As far as my starter set, I emailed them back tonight and specifically asked if I would receive a new starter set if I sent back all 5 figures and not a booster in return.

From Hasbro:
Thank you for contacting Hasbro, Inc.
We are sorry to hear that your Attacktix figure has broken.
As you are already aware, these figures are packaged in "mystery packs" so there is no way of knowing which figures you will get in the pack. We also have no way of knowing which figures you will receive in a pack and therefore can not guarantee exact replacement of the figure that has broken.
We can either send out to you a $3.00 coupon which you can use towards the purchase of another Attactix Booster set or any other Hasbro product or we will be happy to send out a shipping label to you to use to return 3 Attactix figures to us (one being the defective one) and upon receipt, we will send out a replacement pack of 3 figures to you as the replacement figures are only available in 3-packs.

Yikes. That's disappointing. Maybe we should call instead; this policy doesn't seem to be in place in the call centers (well at least, as of yesterday). This has got to be the most foolish policy I've seen with respect to such things. As was mentioned before, if HeroClix can do 1:1 replacements, why can't Hasbro?

here's my two pennies,
hasbro doesnt care as to rarity of figures and the supposed ultra rare figures may not be as rare as you're led to believe as most people who collect hotwheels know of mattel, and the cost to make these maybe as low as 75 cents each as the more they use the casting the cheaper the figure becomes. so in following with good customer service you should, i feel, be allowed to keep any undamaged product and return the damaged for replacement by whatever means available if that means a new three pack booster or three dollar coupon, at least that would offset the cost of a new booster, as to the super rares, they're placed in taped plastic bags if you're collecting for collection sake pack it neat and save it, if not return it and spin the wheel you're still spending the same amount and you havn't "earned" anything no matter how many boosters you bought in the past, it's either yoda unuseable or trooper that actually fires. okay, i'm leaving my soapbox now.

An interesting point. I guess this experience has taught me not to get involved in "collectible" game schemes. They just upset me too much, especially in the case of Attacktix, where a certain amount of figure breakage is to be expected. I think I now can see why RPGs are rather popular: You don't have to worry about your favorite character breaking in actual combat. Still, this whole broken figure replacement policy has rather soured me on Attacktix. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be playing, now that I've seen how vulnerable my figures are to the kinds of play I enjoy. And no, I don't think I'm terribly abusive to my figures...but I'm open to the possibility I might be self-deceptive, too.
