I've been waiting all day for this preview, so I'm quite glad that I'm rewarded for my patience with a double decker . Gambit looks very good and I'm glad that my favorite X-man turned out so playable. Depending on special power ratios, a team of two Gambits and two Beasts looks like a strong team. I'm liking the price point along with the fact that he only has a medium base, helping to counteract his low cost. I like the idea of Doc Ock but I'm left wondering just how well he'll strike. Besides that, he looks like a good figure but not one I'll play with incredibly often. He just doesn't jump out at me as an incredibly playable figure. Besides that, I'm left wondering if this Doc Ock is the same as the one in the Wal-Mart exclusive Spider-Man starter set...

I didn't include it in my preview, because these things tend to vary from figure to figure, but MY Doc Ock's strike is VERY powerful, but hard to aim for multikills.

I was just thinking that spider-mans arm looks like it is a little high and with it angled up like it is could some figure be short enough for him to miss. I was thinking yoda insecticons mini cons all might clear his arm could this be his weakness???

It doesn't look like there's a shoulder joint, but I suppose it's not impossible for there to be one. Most strikers have a joint to let them adjust the height of their attack, after all. And if it isn't adjustable, it looks like it may be too high for MOST figures to be hit.

Oh, it looks like Pyro is less usefull now that Sabretooth is only 20 points. I myself would just use Mystic, not Pyro.

Sabretooth looks awesome and all, but I don't think the starter will ever be better then the Grievous/Obi starter for one simple reason: Grievous. The figure was one of the hardest to get in S1 and the starters with him themselves were hard to find in S2 (as opposed to S1, S3, or S4 starters which I still saw even when the next sets were released). Granted the figures in the Marvel Starter (Correct me if I'm wrong) won't end up in the boosters, making it better, but but the same was true with the TF Starter, and despite the fact Skyblast is awesome it doesn't come close to S2 Grievous set. In conclusion (Sorry for the rant) this starter is awesome, but it simply can't surpass the S2 one, for the same reason no Optimus Prime or Spidey will ever surpass the original Yoda or Maul in 'need to aquirement', they're rare and it was almost impossible to find both while they were out in boosters and now.

yes, it rotates like Bail Organa's arm, so as it turns left and right, it goes up and down as well. It is ONE solid piece of plastic...scrape away the paint and it is all web-clear Ahh...that takes away my major concerns about the strike angle and the webbing breaking off, then! I'd thought it would have been attached like KAM's wrist or Yoda's hand was: with a peg of sorts. Because it's all one big piece of clear plastic, the likelihood of breakage is much, much smaller. Overall, I'm glad that Hasbro seems to have learned from its design mistakes and isn't repeating them! Oh, and greevy, I agreed with your sentiments until you named Grievous instead of Starter 2 Kenobi as your reason for thinking that starter set would never be surpassed If Wolverine had a high-probability Recover power, though, I would have thought that the Marvel starter would have been the one to beat...ah well I look forward to tweaking around with Sabretooth's new striking mechanism - here's hoping it's still robust!

Finally the Brother hood has some real threat in the game other than Mystique! I like Sabretooth, I think he will be a great addition into the Brotherhood team.
As for Gambit and Doc Ock. I like Gambit and will use him often. Doc Ock will be a every now and then when the moon is full and the tide is up figure. Nice sculpts on both figures.

I didn't say that it was a better Starter Set, only that it could be. Here's my reasoning: there is one great figure in the S2 set - Obi-Wan Kenobi and one very good figure - General Grievous. I don't qualify the S2 Grievous as great because he's definitely a step down from the S1 version. A multiple Attackback (with a higher ratio) is much better than Rescue (especially that is so limited in its usefulness). Then you have a Clone Trooper that is nice, but certainly not an earth shaker. Then you end with the Super Battle Droid that probably no one uses. That also equals one Striker and three Launchers.
This new Starter Set is the opposite: three Strikers and one Launcher. Already that is a huge bonus. I've yet to test out the Spider-Man Launcher, but he has a good price for his attack and his Special is very useful - Stun (Leaders) - especially as we're getting more Leaders that are Strikers. So that's a pretty good Launcher.
When you move on to the Strikers, you have two gems in Wolverine and Sabretooth, both with powerful attacks, 12 speed, and good Special Powers. Sabretooth's Recover gives different possibilities than Obi-Wan, because he can be supported by more powerful figures. Finally you get to the last Striker, Doctor Octopus, who is a bit slower with only 10 speed and also has a more narrowly useful Special Power.
That's two excellent figures (Wolverine and Sabretooth), and two good ones (Doc Ock and Spider-Man). I agree that S2 Obi-Wan is possibly the best figure in all of Attacktix, but he's just one figure. When taken as a group, I think this Marvel Starter Set is better.

I really, really like Sabretooth and he has now clinched my desire to purchase the Marvel Origins starter set. First, he has confirmed my fears about Pyro, who is now worthless in my opinion. I'd much rather use a combination of something like two Sabretooth, one Mystique, and a Magneto in any Brotherhood team I make. Sabre is nicely splashable, as mentioned in the review, and I am interested in this new striking mechanism that Yaggleberry described.
As far as this whole "What starter is best?" controversy, I have to join the "S2 Obi/Grievous" club. You have a 90 point team right there that works relatively well (Obi recovers off SBD and Clone, Clone gives Obi attack, SBD gives Obi or Grievous attack, Grievous blasts people and possibly rescues). Second favorite starter has to be Series 4 Star Wars (Han recovers from Chewie, Greedo gives Boba attack, Boba recovers from Greedo, Chewie rallys anyone) but it's not as good due to lack of strikers. Marvel Origins looks like it could take down S4 via Sabretooth constant recover, Spidey stunning, Goblin capturing, and Wolverine handing Spider or Goblin attacks.
