Woo-hoo! Glad to see you'll be part of the tournament contingent, safarisuz! thecasualoblivion, I'll also be jazzed to talk strategy with you, as you seem to have a good handle on the TF side of things.

I don't normally double-post like this, but this is important enough to merit its own post. The rules for the BotCon tournament are here, and apparently, you can't bring your own figures! You've gotta use what's there! It also looks like they're quite congenial about playing SW figures, from teh text in the stated rules. Well, doesn't that just throw each and every strategy out the window?!?

Well… Looks like I may be packing a little lighter than I was thinking before.
Looks like they may have star wars figures available, because they mention the emperor rules.

Is Botcon a nationwide convention or just a local thing? If it is national does it have an official website so I can check it out if it comes near me? |sf>There's only one Botcon per year and it's the official Transfomers convention (Hasbro approved.). IIRC, it's been in California twice; three times at Fort Wayne, IN; once at Rochester (?sp), NY; once in North Carolina; twice in Chicago; once in Ohio; last year in Fort Worth, TX and this year in Lexington, KY. I've attended two of the Fort Wayne Botcons, the one in Los Angeles, and I'll be at this one. As far as my participation at Botcon, I'm arriving via plane at around noon Thursday and my plane leaves at around noon on Monday. Most Botcons I've attended have had days cut off; I'm not doing that this year. I'm going to be at all the Attacktix related activities, including the Friday "game night" (ie. practice.). I won't be at the casino event though. If those are the patterns for where the events are held, only three of those are beyond my ability to attend, those being the two California ones and last year in Texas. I can only attend ones I can drive to, since I need to drive my loot home since I drop a few hundred or so on figures attending these sort of conventions. Flying, rental car, hotel, plus shipping figures just doesn't work for me. I'll drive as far as Chicago though. Well, doesn't that just throw each and every strategy out the window?!? That's mildly annoying. I just went out and bought two more S4 Greedos for this tournament. Oh well, I wanted four Greedos anyway.

Normally, I spend about 150 max in the dealer's room, so I'm able to fit everything into the luggage (which sometimes requires some creative packing). Judging by the package I received on my doorstep last year, the Botcon box set is rather large (which is one of the reasons why I rarely buy the Botcon exclusives).

This year's Botcon package looks to be around the same size box as last year's, according to Botcon's website.
Mailing the amount of figures I'm likely to pick up at Botcon this year would be more of a hassle than the 10 hr drive each way, which also assumes that I will be going beyond what luggage could handle. I have a car with good gas mileage, and plan on getting the cheapest hotel room possible, and live on Ramen and Chef Boy-Ar-Dee. All this to spend as much on the floor as humanly possible. I'm hoping to blow around $600 this year.

I've only gone over that budget per day once. Overall, that always gives me a bit of a monitary cushion. The Botcon Package is the set of toys that comes along with the Primus Registration. The box from last year measures 12 inches by 19 inches by 3 inches. I put in for a Protoform Registration (ie. the cheaper one that doesn't come with toys).

I hope everyone takes lots of pictures!!! I've never been to a TF con before, so take some shots of the costumes (if any) plus anything else from the movie!
And of course AS MUCH of the Attacktix as you can!
THANKS!

For those who didn't meet me in Maryville, MO, I'm 5 foot 4 with straight (semi-long) brown hair and big plastic-framed glasses. I also always wear a small sparkly Pikachu Pedameter on the right side of my waist.

I can see why they would want people to use the convention figures instead of their own. There might be some complaints if someone beefed up the power of the springs inside their figures or added weights to the bases to tip the odds in their favor. That also works great for other folks like me who only have a meager collection at the moment. I'd love to hit a convention some day, but I'd never compete. If there's one thing playing games online has taught me, as soon as I think I've gotten great, I play against someone else and learn that I'm the bottom of the pile. I'm sure it would be even more humiliating in person in front of a crowd of onlookers...lol

Hehehe...well, the tournament atmosphere is generally rather relaxed, so there's very little onlooker laughing. Usually, people are just happy to play around with the toys; I suspect that webhead's gathering will be the first really serious tournament, with more than three top players. Heck, at the tournaments I've been at, the winner was at least fairly gracious, too ;D
The only problem I've ever seen was one kid who had some poor sportsmanship issues. However, those were dealt with after the tournament.
