How do you use your named characters? At our house, my kids and I have decided to only use one of each number of named character per game. That is, if I have Count Dooku, then my kids can't use him. If I have Darth Vader 16, then one of my kids can use Darth Vader 32, but no other 16s. And so on, you get the idea. Non-named characters are fair game for multiples, either on the same or opposing teams. Thus we could each field five Battle Droids (if we had thet many ). This makes it easier to collect a set, since we don't need multiples of named characters. Besides, we play for the fun of it - not necessarily in a very cut-throat manner (though my daughter can get a bit intense! ).

We play with point totals. You can have a team consisting entirely of Dookus. It doesn't matter.

JayPee, Phoenix and I just talked about this and in general we feel the same way. We DEFINITELY won't play with 2 or 3 of the same Named Figure (like three #16 Vaders). But like you, we play for fun Role Playing Battles! But, official game rules do say you could have a team of Yoda if you want, so it comes down to [glow=red,2,300]HOUSE RULES[/glow]

We also play with only one unique figure per game.

We don't even let someone take DV #32 if someone takes #16. And since we don't have Anakin Skywalker, we've made it so that #32 can be either or (Anakin or Vader). We just declare what his alignment is when he's drafted. Sith or Jedi. And it's quite fun drafting a 200 point army. Just take turns drafting a figure until your at the max. We use the tix method of deciding who picks first. That pick usually turns into the AT-RT pretty fast.

at harding place
each side can have one of each of the main characters. or as many as they want of the clones and droids etc. (bly and gree count as nonmains) we use dupes if BOTH side have them. hence my usually choice of two Grievouss'.
but when i play with people without their own set, we take turns drafting from pt value piles. all the 10 pts in one pile.. all the 30s in another. then take rounds picking at the piles one at a tym till all figures are gone. or if say we have 12 troopers at 10pts each.. and are playing with three people.. each gets 4 troopers... any xtras/odds are discarded. then each team can select from those (the ones they picked), their captain and backups..

We play with one of each number, this should have been a poll.

Yep, 1 unique character per side. Don't mind uniques on both sides so much, but it just makes for a more enjoyable game I think.

We've kind of settled in to each named character is unique and can't be used on both sides (at least by #). The one exception is Obi-Wan. Since Ewan McGregor has been in a number of other films, our competitors can field any number of Obi-Wans, but after the first Obi-Wan, the next one is Catcher Block, then Christian, then Renton, etc.
