I found a star wars-only Attacktix tournament in 2009 March.

No because enough of us are spread across the country to hold tournaments at our local hang outs just like the War Hammer kids.

No, we're having one in October and I'm sure we'll do more once the weather breaks in Spring and Summer of 09.
tournaments are the only thing keeping this game alive. We just need to be inventive on what kind of games we play. Like Chris came up with the 30-40 pointer game.

I'm planning on running San Diego Comic Con tournaments for many, many years.

The tournaments that have existed in the past have been no where near the grandeur of other mini or card games (such as MTG), that draw multiple hundreds of people to compete (to reach such a state would take allot more effort on hasbro's part).... What is the largest outcome thus far? Around thirty-something?
But to get to the question at hand, no tournaments are not dead, nor show any real sign (surprisingly) of dying off any time too soon... We will likely see the "relaunch" (or second coming? ;D)before we see the final breath of individuals holding their own tournaments (least, I hope we do).

When I went to Gen Con MTG tables took up tons of space. People are real crazy about that game.
Never interested me that much. I like the feel of something tangible that I can play with instead of imagining all the action in my head. LOL!
