I started reading the Watchmen yesterday. Yes I've never read it and that makes me a bad geek, but I think my posting on here makes up for that. Anyway, I haven't got very far, X-Men it's not but I like it. Who has read it? Who Has not?

I've gotta admit that I've never read it either. It looks cool, so I might have to borrow SinisterSyndicater's copy so I can see what I'm missing.

I got it today for my birthday. I've read 2 chapters thus far and I love it. I can really relate to Rorschach, if that tells you something. Essentially I like the idea that everyday people can strap up a groovy costume (see Defender of New Paradron) and kick some evildoer butt, outside of the law. There's actually a real-live group of ex-GIs doing this in Cleveland - the Neighborhood Defense League ( neighborhooddefenseleague.wordpress.com/) and I really think that this is the way society is going with everyone suing cops for doing their job (albeit sometimes overzealously) to the best of their ability. Three Thumbs up (I'm holding up a severed limb in my mouth) =D

It is quite raw, but intriguing storytelling. The ending is classic. "I did it thirty-five minutes ago"
I liked Rorschach as well,...it gets pretty grim for him, " Rorschach: No. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Never compromise". He's a nice fusion of the old school Question and Batman without the extra training and money (I always liked the question in the JLU animation as well).

I'm guessing you're talking about my Prowl costume? I'm flattered, but it's hard to walk in that thing, let alone kick any evildoer butt.... even though that'd be freakin awesome! ;D

Your hands seemed to work and a .45 caliber pistol certainly puts down evil!
Finished the novel last night at 4AM. What an ending! I was both elated and disturbed, having myself thought that a scenario as described <<Avoiding Spoilers>> would truly be globally unifying.
Enjoy....a truly great read, and I LOVE how the pirate story ended - I called it all along when he was first getting onto the raft.

This sounds intriguing. I might have to see if I can find it. Is it a comic or an acutal book?

I have a copy you can borrow if you'd like. It's a 'Graphic Novel', so it's probably both but it's really in comic book format but thick as a bible.
The original came out in 12 monthly issues and now is compiled into one compendium.

The Watchmen is literature, have no doubt...don't be fooled that some of the story is told by pictures and not just words. It's deep, heavy, layered, and very...dense. I've probably read it five times since it was first collected years and years ago...and each time I find something new in it...
The movie trailer nearly brings a tear to my eye...

I've probably read it five times since it was first collected years and years ago...and each time I find something new in it... The movie trailer nearly brings a tear to my eye... It's all true. A truly great book. Any adult that calls themselves a comic book fan has to read this book. They don't have to like it, but they must read it. I first read the book 3 months after 9-11 while in London and you can imagine (keeping spoilers to the knowing) how much of an impact the ending had on me. It was one of those "Holy Crap!" moments. A lot of Alan Moore's work resonates for years and years after it's written. For example, some of the tones in V for Vendetta (like in the movie) can apply somewhat to todays political world but at that moment I thought the man had seen the future. I've seen several copies in my local libraries. Find it. Read it. Then read it again. ... and yes, that trailer does kick 12 to 15 different kinds of ass!!

The Trailer really does kick 12 to 15 different kinds of ass!! I 3rd that. We got the entertainment weekly with watchmen on the cover and I kind of glanced at it but it didn't grab my attention. But when we when to see the dark knight (also kicked Mucho Asso!! and so F'ing Loud! My ears hurt after that movie) the trailer played. Then I had to see it. That Pumpkins Song and all the great visuals! Man it was breathtaking. Its amazing what a really good trailer can do for a movie. SOmetimes they show Way to much of the movie. I Prefer when they show just enough to get you juiced.

How very odd that a DC property would be licensed in any way to Fox when DC is owned by WB. Oh well stranger things have happened I guess.
