When making an attacktix team, do you....
Build the best team that you can. or Build a team with figures you like. or Build a team with a combination of both figures you like and the best figures you have.
Some people build teams to win and other build them because they just want to have fun. Which person are you?
Personally, I build my teams to have fun, with the figures I like. After all, attacktix should be about fun.

I use both. And sometimes just random stuff like 10 clone troopers.

I don't think I ever make a team that is just a hodge podge of favorite characters...usually I pick a figure or two I like and build around them.
Of course, the other option is used a lot as well...building the best team possible and ignoring characters altogether.
But when I play for myself, I tend to make "theme teams" that also have cohesive strategy.

Sometimes I want to win, and sometimes I just want to play.
If I want to win, I'll build the best team I can. If I just want to play, I'll just use what I find interesting, and then build the best team around that. If I'm playing a newbie or somebody who really sucks, I may put together a less imposing team just to make a game out of it.

I basically agree with (and do) everything that the Casual Oblivion said - although if I am using figures I like, I still tend to try and make sure that they align well with their special powers.
When playing for fun, I love to use the force blasters, but as has been well documented on this site, at a cost of 40 points, force blasters are generally not worth it unless you have 200 point teams or above (in a competitve environment).
When playing "for real", I try to get a good mix of strikers and shooters and tend to go with more figures (cheaper figures) so that I have more.

LOL... the question is a conundrum; the 'best' figures you have is a relative, and highly subjective term in and of itself. I use the figures I like the most as they are the best (in my mind). It's arguable (see Yodabreaker - ed.) that Jedi Knights or Wickets are the best, as every time I played YB he crushed me not like a bug, oh no, more like a molecule of tritium (H3) in a thermonuclear reaction. But alas, I digress, I'd say that I use the best figures, which happen to be my faves: Obi Wan (due to Biggie Smalls' usage of the phrase 'use the force like Obi' in "Hypnotize") from S2-38, Jedi Knights, KAM Gold and Black, Agen Kolar, and the formidible Destroyer (I now have 8 of them....Bwahahaha).

Inasmuch as the figures I like are the ones that form the best team for me (especially my Jedi Knights), I suppose I could have chosen the "both" option. However, inasmuch as I want to build the "best" team I can at all times, it's the more accurate response for me. Besides, the "best" team for playing a newbie likely consists of figures I don't like so much, and the "best" team for playing my wife explicitly excludes my favorite figures (i.e., no strikers!).

Agreed on the "best" team senario. The "best" team is your opinion. I have a few "best" teams that are "best" at what they do (be it recover, shoot back, Hug your opp to death)

I generally play with the best team, and "best" here is defined as those teams I like, and I like the teams that win. Since my teams are faction based, my favorites are all Rebel team, all Jawa team, all Tusken team, or all Bounty Hunter team. Not only do I personally like them, they kick major butt.
