I want to try out all of the Marvel figures in a game setting, so I set up a tournament with my Marvel collection. I have all figures except the Ghost Rider Mega set and the Spider Man Origins starter, but I've put together twelve well thought out teams with my Marvel collection, some with a few Star Wars figures to round things out. The tournament is 100pt teams, and Swiss format. For those of you are unfamiliar with collectable card games, in a Swiss tournament everybody plays a match, and then the winners play the winners and the losers play the losers, and so on until there are two players/teams whose records are clearly one and two, and then those two play for the championship. Here are the Marvel teams:
1. Team X-Men--Gambit x2, Beast, Prodder Wolverine 2. Team Teamwork--Pole Swinging Spider Man, Avengers Spider Man, Thing, Electro, Western Ghost Rider 3. Team Ghost Rider--Ghost Rider x2, Western Ghost Rider, Punisher, S4 Greedo 4. Team Daredevil--Daredevil x3, Electra x4 5. The Avengers--Captain America, Thor, Avengers Spider Man x3 6. Team Beast--Beast x5 7. The Sinister Syndicate--Doctor Octopus, Venom, Electro x4 with Green Goblin in backups 8. Team Green Goblin--Green Goblin, Sabertooth x2, Jedi Knight x2 9. The Brotherhood--Magneto , Pyro x2, Mystique 10. The Hidden--Blackheart, Abigor x2, S4 Greedo x2 11. Team Wolverine--Starter Wolverine, Spider Man, Grand Moff Tarkin, Jedi Knight x2 12. Team Hulk--The Hulk x2, Avengers Spider Man x2
Also to further test Marvel Attacktix and round things out to 16 teams, I added two Star Wars and two Transformers teams:
13. The Empire--S4 Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin x2, AT-ST Driver, S4 Scout Trooper 14. The Jedi--Yoda, Kit Fisto, Jedi Knight x2, S4 Han Solo, S2 Orange Clone Trooper 15. The Autobots--Overhaul, Super Optimus Prime Truck Mode, Minicon x4 with Gold Super Optimus Prime in backups 16. Team Battle Ravage--Battle Ravage x4, White Decpticlone x2.
Here are the results for round 1:
Autobots(1-0) def. X-Men(0-1)--This was close, the X-Men rallyed, recovered and rescued a lot.
Teamwork(1-0) def. Ghost Rider(0-1)--This wasn't close. On turn two Teamwork took three attacks and the game was basically over.
Daredevil(1-0) def. Avengers(0-1)--This wasn't remotely close.
Beast(1-0) def. Sinister Syndicate(0-1)--Neither was this. I can't hit anything with Electro at all.
Green Goblin(1-0) def. Brotherhood(0-1)--Mystique did get to steal a Jedi Knight, but this wasn't really close.
Jedi(1-0) def. The Hidden(0-1)--This was very close. Only the Orange Clone Trooper survived.
Battle Ravage(1-0) def. Wolverine(0-1)--The only figure in the defeated pile was one Battle Ravage.
Hulk(1-0) def. Empire(0-1)--Surprise of round one. Turn one, Hulks kill 2 Grand Moff Tarkins. Turn two, one Hulk and remaining Spider man kill troopers. Turn three, Hulk kills Vader. Both Hulks survive without being knocked down.
More to come...

round 2:
Beast(2-0) def. Autobots(1-1)--This one was very close
X-Men(1-1) def. Ghost Rider(0-2)--Bad luck.
Teamwork(2-0) def. Jedi(1-1)--Electro aims for a Jedi Knight on turn one, and I miss and kill Yoda standing next to it, who isn't white. The Jedi fall to some bad luck.
Battle Ravage(2-0) def. Daredevil(1-1)--I was able to kill all three Daredevils early without a white, and Team Battle Ravage was able to sit on the starting line and force team Daredevil to advance, thanks to having a pair of launchers.
Avengers(1-1) def. Sinister Syndicate(0-2)--Captain America was able to do a double attack, which swung the game. I still can't hit anything with Electro.
Green Goblin(2-0) def. Hulk(1-1)--Sabertooths just refused to die, and Green Goblin has more than enough power to kill Hulks at long range.
Hidden(1-1) def. Brotherhood(0-2)--Abigor's Attackbacks combined with Blackheart refusing to die wins this easily.
Empire(1-1) def. Wolverine(0-2)--This wasn't really fair, as a team with three leaders against a team with a pair of Grand Moff Tarkins is in a bit of trouble, and it turned out as expected.

This is an excellent idea, and one I've certainly considered carrying out in the past. Keep the results coming, I for one am very interested!

I like this idea a lot. I'm definitely interested in how this goes and like seeing the quick match summaries.
I often do tournaments against myself, but I just do the "lose one and out" format, although your way is better at crowning a "true champion". Haven't had one yest since I got Marvel and Transformers into my collection though, so it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top!
I would think team brotherhood would finish last because their big gun in Magneto can only sacrifice 20 pointers, which is a big disadvantage.

Round 3:
Battle Ravage(3-0) def. Beast(2-1)--Decepticlones won this fight. Team Battle Ravage sat on the starting line while Team Beast had to advance. The Beasts Rallied twice while not one Battle Ravage was Rallied. Team Battle Ravage still won with one Battle Ravage and one Decepticlone left, since they could sit back and shoot, however ineffectively, while forcing the Beasts to advance into range and giving the Battle Ravages the first chance to strike. The Rallies of the Beasts were ineffective since they had to advance back into range.
Green Goblin(3-0) def. Teamwork(2-1)--This one was dumb luck. After a turn apiece of missing launcher shots, Teamwork advanced and Thing killed a Jedi Knight who turned up white, which gave the other Jedi Knight a free attack, which resulted in the early death of Pole Spidey, which was followed by Sabertooth Recovering. The game was basically over at that point.
Autobots(2-1) def. Avengers(1-2)--Autobots go first and Overhaul snipes Captain America on turn 1. Avengers get an Evade and Super Optimus Prime Truck fails to turn up white, but Overhaul refuses to die and the Minicons are just too short for Spiderman to consistently strike(I was 1 for 4, and I consider myself a competent striker). The Avengers fall.
The Hidden(2-1) def. Daredevil(1-2)--Abigor and Blackheart strike again. Both Abigors turn up white, losing Team Daredevil two figures, and Blackheart Vanquishes sucessfully throughout the whole game. Team Daredevil gets an Evade, and they manage to reduce The Hidden to just Blackheart, but Blackheart refuses to come up anything other than white and Team Daredevil runs out of figures.
Hulk(2-1) def. X-Men(1-2)--Hulk kills a Gambit on the starting line, and they get a recover or two. I'm actually pretty proud of my aim with Hulk. I lose a Hulk early, but the Spider Mans get a few kills, and the X-Men just don't turn up white enough.
The Empire(2-1) def. Jedi(1-2)--I don't know what is wrong with this Jedi team, though this had some bad luck involved. Both Empire Troopers came up white, and Vader survived a few kills.
Brotherhood(1-2) def. Sinister Syndicate(0-3)--This game was reduced to Magneto vs. three Electros. I still can't hit anything with Electro, so guess how that turned out.
Ghost Rider(1-2) def. Wolverine(0-3)--Broke my Punisher during this fight when it was shot off the table. All three Vengences for the Ghost Rider team came up, offsetting the early loss of Punisher. Team Wolverine continues to suck.

I could technically call round four the final round, since only one undefeated is left, but I'm going to go at least six rounds, seven or more if there isn't a clear #1 and #2. But here it is:
Battle Ravage(4-0) def. Green Goblin(3-1) This is the closest match I have ever seen in any game I've ever played. After trading some useless shots, team Battle Ravage is in range first and kills the Jedi Knights, and between those and the other two Battle Ravages all four are close enough to the Green Goblin that he can't get away no matter what next turn. The Sabertooths kill off two Battle Ravages without a Rally. Next, I advance the remaining two Battle Ravages, first killing Green Goblin, who is white. I kill one of the Sabertooths next. Now it is one Battle Ravage and two Decepticlones against Sabertooth and a stolen Battle Ravage. Sabertooth kills the Decepticlone on the far right(this becomes important) and the stolen Battle Ravage kills the remaining Decepticon Battle Ravage, without a Rally. Now Decepticlone, who is on the far left, manages to kill the stolen Battle Ravage at about 8 tix, leaving the battle one on one vs. Sabertooth, who appears to be in movement range of Decepticlone. Sabertooth advances against the Decepticlone but ends his move one tix short of striking distance. Decepticlone then fires the fatal shot.
Teamwork(3-1) def. The Hidden(2-2)--This one went badly for the Hidden. I misgudged the distance and Avengers Spider Man got in range of Blackheart before The Hidden killed anything, though it didn't matter as he wasn't white anyway. Following that, I killed an Abigor who failed to be white. With the third attack from Teamwork, the other Abigor also died. The two Greedos didn't last much longer.
Autobots(3-1) def. Hulk(2-2)--I am just too good of a shot with Overhaul and Super Optimus Prime for this match. Aiming at Overhaul on turn one with the Hulks, I kill the truck by accident, allowing the Autobots to start with Gold Super Optimus Prime on turn one. I snipe a Hulk(failed to Recover) on turn one. The following turn I manage to kill both Spider Men with Super Optimus Prime in one shot, and they were about 2-3 tix apart. I love it when a launcher gets multiple kills! Overhaul then finished off the other Hulk. This battle lasted all of two turns.
Beast(3-1) def. The Empire(2-2)--I advanced Darth Vader fearlessly like I often do, and he dies on the first try. Bye-bye Empire.
X-Men(2-2) def. Jedi(1-3)--More bad news for the Jedi. First, Gambit kills Kit Fisto on the starting line. Then the X-Men just kept coming up white, with Wolverine and Gambit recovering and Rescueing repeatedly, and Beast Rallying the Gambit who sacrificed himself to kill Yoda. Going by the rule that Wolverine does not have to personally kill the leader for Rage, he killed a Jedi Knight, then Gambit killed Yoda, then Wolverine killed the other Jedi Knight. The Jedi were massacred.
Daredevil(2-2) def. Brotherhood(1-3)--This wasn't even remotely fair. The Brotherhood's four figures didn't have the manpower to handle the Daredevil swarm.
Avengers(2-2) def. Ghost Rider(1-3)--Thor won this fight. I had all three of my remaining figures, Greedo, Western Ghost Rider and Punisher, outside the movement range of the two living Spider Men when I killed Thor, who was White and using Thunderclap, moved all three figures inside of the kill zone. Greedo and Punisher then died, and Western Ghost Rider was alone against two Spider Men and Captain America. Team Ghost Rider falls again.
Sinister Syndicate(1-3) def. Wolverine(0-4)--Electro finally saves the day!!! I get two kills with Electro during this game(both were at point blank range), and Electro turns the tide of the game by Rallying Venom.

Now if only we could have an on-line bookie where we could wager our "cybercash" that we get for posting!
Very interesting... I enjoy reading the match summaries. I'm surprised that the Ghost Rider team isn't faring well so far (1-3).

Now if only we could have an on-line bookie where we could wager our "cybercash" that we get for posting! Very interesting... I enjoy reading the match summaries. I'm surprised that the Ghost Rider team isn't faring well so far (1-3). The betting wouldn't be that hard, what a great idea! There is the send donation under peoples money total. Either one of the big money mods could be the bookie, or someone people could trust could be the go between, and money could be transacted using the send donation button. As for Team Ghost Rider, I've noticed two main flaws in the team. First off, Punisher is a waste of space, and his 30pts of uselessness hamper the team a lot. Second, I'm finding that a team based on Vengence doesn't really work well. Vengence seems to work best as a supporting factor to your team, to mess with your opponent's strategy with "do I kill that and put my figure(s) at risk or not?". As the main focus of the team, you just kill the Vengence figures with whatever is handy and take what comes. Ghost Riders I believe would work better supporting other strong figures than being the core of the team.

Just curious as to the rest of the matches - I guess you took a break to do the games in your other thread (sorta like an All-Star Break I guess!).
Vengeance does seem like such a great special, but I tend to agree that it works better when your entire team isn't based on it.
Malform had a team of 5 Yodas and 5 JKs at superflytnt's tournament last year, and everyone was scared to face him due to Yoda's vengeance power (why does a Jedi have vengeance anyway?). If memory serves - after a couple of multiple kills by his opponent the vengeance kinda got negated since you could lose 3 figures and then get to vengeance only 1.

I kinda lost interest in it. I guess I would declare Team Battle Ravage the winner, with Team Green Goblin runner up.
The big post was based on the experience of these games.

The big post was based on the experience of these games. Oh yeah - that makes sense... should have noticed that it was based on the same games.
