Lock or delete this topic if this sort of thing isn't allowed, but has anyone tried weighing their boosters before buying them to try to get a particular figure? Since each figure is a different weight, then the packages generally can vary by up to 2 grams in terms of weight, with the larger figures(like Super Optimus Prime Robot Mode) being heavier, and Troopers being lighter. You can use just a standard kitchen scale to do it(unless you want perfect accuracy, in which electronic scales are a must). I was thinking we could start a database of the weight of all the figures, the packaging of boosters, and the checklist that is sometimes included, so people don't have to buy tons of boosters just to get those last few figures they need. Anyone think this is a good idea?

I generally hand-weigh trying to find the lightest booster, but that's because some of the heaviest figures (Optimus Prime, Landmine) are ones I don't want more of. Unfortunately, it got me another Vector Prime and Battle Ravage today, rather than a Decepticlone or a Mini-Con. ---Dave

I used to hand-weigh as well. As for your Battle Ravage problem, just lightly shake the box, there's a distinct rattle the mace makes when it hits the figure when shook. Also, putting the box on a fulcrum(like, say, another Attacktix box's edge) along the center of the box can help determine where the weight is distributed.
I'll weigh my Transformers Attacktix tonight as well as the box for the booster, so the weight database can get started.

X-raying is always better. If you know anyone in the electronics assembly field, talk with them.

Well obviously X-ray would be better, but being 15 years old means limited resources when it comes to that sort of thing, but good tip anyway. Here's what I got for TF Attacktix weight so far from my collection:
140 g Omega Supreme 70 g Super Optimus Prime Robot Mode 55 g Skyblast Vehicle Mode 50 g Megatron Robot Mode 50 g Hot Shot 50 g Dirtboss 45 g Megatron Vehicle Mode 45 g Super Optimus Prime Vehicle Mode 45 g Overhaul 40 g Battle Ravage 40 g Decepticlone 40 g Ransack 40 g Rodimus 40 g Landmine 30 g Insecticon 30 g Minicon 30 g Skyblast Robot Mode 30 g Crumplezone 30 g Scourge 30 g Omnicon
I included the Battle Masters and Starter Set, for completion's sake. No noticeable difference was seen for Chrome and regular figures. Anyway, if anyone has a scale and one of the figures not listed, then PM me the weight in grams and I'll add it to the list. Thanks.

LOL. I guess I'm fortunate - I sell x-ray equipment among other things so I have access. The first time I went to Target I bought 30 boosters and returned 12 of them!

The problem with weighing them is that there are too many with similar weights, and there's no real way to determine tolerances on the packaging, figures and paperwork. I mean, look at all the troopers, they're 30 grams each. Not to mention that the majority of the SRs are all around the same weight. I think this will be really hard unless we can collectively figure out a better mousetrap. My vote is to determine a better way to open them and see inside without destroying the packaging. This would be more effective, especially when Marvel comes out, and will save us all a fortune in shipping while bartering and ebaying!

Good point, it would be better to find a way to open them without destroying the packaging. I was thinking, because the corners of the packages are cut before they're shipped to stores, how about you take a knife and slide it along the gap in the seal, to barely open the sealed part, squeeze the bottom and side of the box, and shine a light inside the package? That's the only way I can think of to see what's inside with the new packaging.

This thread makes me long for the old Triangle Cardboard Box that the Starwars 1-3 came in. You Just poke your finger in the bottom and top and give it a shake. You would get a pretty good look and choose your box that way. This new sealed plastic box take all the fun out off it. I've shaken, hand weighed, Smelled and Put them Up against my head useing my mental powers and have had no luck finding what I want. "Random" really gets on my nerves after a while. And do you guys find that Figures that should be less rare are actually more rare?!

And the reason for the new packaging was because so many people were ripping through them/destroying the packages for peeking purposes.

"And the reason for the new packaging was because so many people were ripping through them/destroying the packages for peeking purposes. " What is your point?

"And the reason for the new packaging was because so many people were ripping through them/destroying the packages for peeking purposes. " What is your point? Just that Hasbro wasn't trying to take your peeking fun away - they were trying to stop the blatant booster figure stealing! (and for the record my husband was a peeker). As for the booster weighing, I think it's a good try. I've picked up what I thought to be heavier boxes with good results (chrome optimus prime!)

I never thought of that! I just pick through the rack looking for boxes that haven't opened or beat up or ones that just feel lucky sitting in my hand.
