On what kind of surfaces do you guys play? I made a playing board a while back using: - 2x2 hardboard from Home Depot ($1)
- black spray paint ($1)
- printed Transformers logos (?)
- contact paper ($4)
However, now that I'm getting better at shooting from a distance, I'm going to make a bigger board that looks like the surface of Cybertron!

2x2 is kinda small...
We mostly play on one of three surfaces:
A pool table(felt surface, whatever size it is) A piece of plywood sitting on top of the pool table(again, same size) A 3 x 3 card table with a soft vinyl surface
I actually prefer the card table, but we mostly play at a friend of mine's house, and his house is too cluttered to play anywhere but on the pool table.

Well, it was only $1 for the 2x2 piece of wood and I couldn't hit anything from farther than that anyhow, so it made sense at the time!

The local gaming store has a bunch of tables surfaced with canvas. They work pretty well...not so sticky that skids are impossible, not so smooth that stuff always skids rather than falling over.

I play on an exactly 3' x 3' board. It was supposed be a top for my brother's table but he let me have it after the project fell through. It's little more than a slab of wood with a nearly invisible "starting line" on it. I'll also, on rare occasion, hold a battle across our entire living room floor. Hardwood flooring makes for the greatest 500 point battles ever.

I used to play on the kitchen table, but I bought a 3'x4' sheet of plexi-glass and cut it down to 3'x3'. I drew (with a Sharpee marker) a starting line/border, making the play area 30"x30" with 3" on every side for an 'out of bounds' or 'back ups' area. It works really well and I'm glad I did it.
It's not as 'professional' looking as I'd prefer, but someday, I'll probably put Autobot, Decepticon, etc. symbols in the corners.

I like the floor and using a yard stick to estimate where the starting point is at. I like the idea of no real boundries. It also makes it harder to lose missiles since they have less farther to fly away.
