Do you love lightsaber duels? Do you wish you could wield one of those awesome weapons? Well now, thanks to the brilliance of copes, you can! Here's what you do.
Get a pool noodle and cut it in half. Now you should have two soft, but kind of stiff noodles. They are perfect to duke it out with as they don't hurt as long as you don't swing too hard, and you can block the opponent's attacks. Some people will just swing as hard as they can, and that ruins the fun, because it makes the noodles bend, and it hurts to get hit. But hey, real lightsaber duels aren't about who can swing harder, they're about who has the best reflexes and quickness. I have been doing this for a long time, and jaws and I duel all the time. I just thought other fans of lightsaber duels might enjoy this. It's really fun on a trampoline, and that's where we usually fight.
It's great to try new variations like using two sabers at once, or using a full noodle for a dual-sided saber (they do tend to bend if you do this though). Or, you can bend the hilt (which you can mark off with a rubber band or something) and make it a Dooku saber!
It may sound strange, but it's the closest thing i've found to those awesome lightsaber duels.

I love the 7 buck ones you feel the pain and that makes you better. It makes it more of a sport then a game.

Wow, I thought I was the only one planning this. But I suppose great nerd minds think alike. I'm looking for a wood shaft to run don the middle firmly that will keep the noodle straight. -Radar
Ps $7? You might want to check your local dollar store.

A cool idea Copes, especially if you don't want to shatter the plastic sabers.
My nine-year-old and I have gone through several of the "movie lights and sound effects" plastic lightsabers because we engage in brutal, bruise-inflicting Jedi-versus-Sith battles in the back yard. (The sabers make decent flashlights after the blades break off---and having a flashlight with sound effects can actually be quite a bit of fun.)
We used to stage these skirmishes in the living room, but then we almost broke a lamp and my wife banished all future battles to the back yard. (She's just jealous because she doesn't have a lightsaber.)
Our nine-year-old called her "Darth Mommy" after that.
I thought that was considerably funnier than my wife did.
Which is probably the real reason why we have to play Star Wars in the back yard now.

We haven't ever broken the ones that are $4.88 at Wal-Mart---don't light up or make sounds, but they are extendable. But the ones with lights and sounds break after a few hundred hard hits.
