Surprisingly, I've not been able to find any threads like this in the Star Wars section or (using the search function) on the board anywhere else. Thus, here I am (unsurprisingly): Form V: Djem SoDjem So, or The Perseverance Form was the fifth form of the seven forms recognised as canon by the last Jedi Council for lightsaber combat.Form V or the Way of the Krayt Dragon was a powerful style developed by Form III practitioners that preferred a more offensive style, since the defensive nature of Form III often led to dangerously prolonged combat. Djem So evolved into a combat style by combining the defensive maneuvers of Soresu with the more aggressive philosophy/tactics of Makashi.Form V came into existence by taking the defensive skills derived from Form III and quickly channeling it into offense. A common example used to illustrate the difference is that that while Form III combatants effortlessly deflected blaster bolts, Form V practitioners excelled at redirecting the blaster fire back toward the opponent. This action simultaneously defended the user and efficiently injured the enemy. Form V emphasized strength and power over your opponents. Take this quiz!

Hee - goes to show mods are hardly infallible. Thanks, Ben Kenobi!
I think I'll keep this up here for now, as I'm not sure exactly where it should be placed (General Gabbery or Star Wars Universe).

Yeah, for those who have read the episode III novelization, it talks a little about the forms. For example: a little bit of the reason Anakin defeated Dooku is that Makashi (Dooku's style) Does not use the kinetic energy required to meet Anakin's attacks (Djem So)

Form IV: Ataru
Ataru, Way of the Hawk-Bat, was the fourth of the seven forms of lightsaber combat.
Form IV was one of the more popular fighting forms in the Jedi Order for many centuries, during and preceding the era of the Clone Wars.
Ataru was an aggressive combat form relying on a combination of power, speed, and grace. Using the Force, users could perform amazing athletic feats.
Practitioners of Ataru were always on the offensive, attacking with wide, fast, and powerful swings. Form IV practitoners constantly called upon the Force to aid in their movements and attacks. By allowing the Force to flow throughout their body, they could overcome their physical limitations (including old age, as was the case with Master Yoda), and allowed them to perform amazing feats of acrobatics, such as somersaults and backflips, not only for attack, but also to evade their opponents attacks/strikes.

Oddly from what I know of form two that makes very little sense to me. Form two was a basic form that if memory serves each jedi was supposed to know because it EXCELLS at lightsaber combat if fully mastered (as in dooku's case) Honestly...anakin fighting dooku and winning imo was a plot hole...least at the speed he lost at.

Play Knights of the Old Republic II. That XBOX game has the lightsaber styles in it, as well as Echani fighting stances. Pretty cool to SEE it in action if you're into the minutae of the SW universe.

Actually, Makashi-style is styled after that of a fencer. The idea is to parry and riposte away enemy attacks before getting jabbing strikes. The reason Anakin lost so quickly is that few people specialize in Makashi because at that point in history there weren't many non-Jedi's running around with lightsabers. Also, the reason Obi-Wan was able to put up a bit of a fight against both Dooku and Grievous' unique styles is Form III, or Soresu, is a defensive form that can quickly adapt to lightsaber styles. The fighting style you are thinking of that is the form used to teach Jedi how to use their saber is Form I, or Shii Cho, which is made up of basic sword moves. Kit Fisto mastered this style and is able to move incredibly fast while performing only the most basic attacks, allowing for quick precise kills. Sorry for rambling. I absolutely love the details of lightsaber combat. I also got Form IV. Which stinks because I would have preferred Form III, the Defensive form.
