As I'm continuing my renewed interest in Attacktix, I'm thinking about how to best involve new people in the game. Specifically, I'm thinking about how to make the game fair to them when they play someone like me or Annointed1 who is far more experienced at the game.
How have you guys given yourselves limitations in order to make the game fun and fair for new people you play against? And if you've not done that before, what would you suggest?

I find it best to do a 3 figure game and I make sure I pick 10 pint small based figures.

Yes, doing it by numbers of characters rather than points is a good idea, and in doing so you can give the beginner some more point heavy teams to try and balance with your experience.

I shoot cross eyed. That helps a little. Actually, for newbies, I'd give them 5 more figures then what you have. That way they MIGHT give you some competition. Really wished we could've gotten something going at Gen Con over the weekend. That would be a blast to play some Tix again. I haven't played in a year. I too am getting a craving for the game again. I was talking with Webhead over the weekend and just talking about it was really making me wanna bust out a table and play. Been way too long.

Been way too long. Indeed. For any beginners that I've played (pretty much all of current Tix group, at one point or another), usually I'll give them some real solid figures to work with and I just won't attack them until they get the hang of attacking me. That way they can take their time and learn their attacks without worrying about me chopping their guys down. I miss teaching people the game, but that was the cool thing about the last SteelCityCon that we did. So many people walked up to our table out of curiosity. That gave us the chance to give a quick demo, and more often than not, they would then buy some figures from us. Felt good bringing some newbies into the game again!

Good ideas, guys. Another idea I had last night was to play where your special powers don't count and theirs are always white. I was talking with Annointed1 last night about this and he said there's a whole big "rule book" on how to get new players into Warhammer 40k and how you start them out to make the game fair and hope they get hooked.
So maybe a combination of some of these ideas would be a good approach. Starting off with just three figs (like the quick start guide suggested), giving them three better figures than yours, maybe even launchers only. After a few games of that you can introduce special powers, but if you let them start out with always activating powers then they'd start to see how helpful and important the specials are. And then after that, when you play a normal game w/regular special powers, they'll also see the importance of the ratios for the specials.
Other thoughts?

Too bad we don't live closer to eachother man. I'd love to get together and smack your figures off the table. ;D
All this talk of Tix has me working on some more customs.
