I was digging in my closet earlier for a box of model pieces that I had stuck in there that I plan to use as detail parts for some of my customs when I came across my old Warhammer 40k Imperial Guard army. I tried Warhammer about, oh, four years back, it was a little hard to keep track of everything you needed to know at any given time with all the checks and equipment, etc., but that wasn't what turned me off of the game only a couple months after I got into it...
No, what made me turn away from Warhammer was how paranoid some players got about damage to the paint and such to their figures - one guy I played against freaked when I bumped one of his Necrons while moving one of my Guardsmen that was in combat with it.
Seeing my old Guard army made me think, a lot of us make customized Attacktix and I got to wondering; How protective do Attacktix customizers get of their projects - do you just display them? Do you prefer for an opponent to declare they're attacking a custom so that you can substitute a 'pinch target'? Or do you just treat your customs as you do the rest of your squad when you use them in a battle? (which is what I do)
Anyone care to chime in on this?

I've used custom WizKids stuff (MechWarrior, Mage Knight, etc) in games, but I wouldn't generally want to use custom Attacktix in a real game. Partly because of damage issues, partly because they're not always "fair" figures anymore. ---Dave

I make it that way my customs are durable enough to be treated like the rest of my figures,if not I don't think it's worth making them.

I'm pretty new to the customizing my figures, but I can understand both sides. On the one hand we want to preserve the work that has been done to improve our figures and not let them be damaged and on the other hand we have customized them in some cases for a specific purpose for play. I, personal, customized by Omega Supreme so it would be heavier in the back so it could fall over.
Either way I say if you build a figure with intent to play with it use it, if you just want to show it off that is fine to.
As for me I'm proud of my work, but I'm ready for battle, if you know what I mean.

I WANT to use my customs, but I really don't know if they are acually durable to play with....I know that 2 are,but the rest I'm not so sure about...

I've played with most of mine...the Green Lantern is particularly beastly. The trick is to coat the heck out of it with clearcoat. That protects the paint pretty well and makes it durable enough to drop off a table once in a while.
My customs sit on a shelf, and anyone can touch, play with them, whatever. They're friggin toys! The AT-AT was a bit scary for me, but I tend to WAY overengineer things, so it took all of the beatings that could be dished out...now that YodaBreaker has it, we'll have to see what his take is.

My brothers and I really don't have enough destroyed figures to make a whole lot of customs, so we often have to take apart previous customs to make new ones. Thus, we're not incredibly protective about them... plus, we try to make them hardy enough to survive YodaBreaker...

I have no problem using mine. My 8 year old plays with them all the time.
