it's been awhile since my son and i have played attacktix, but we couldn't resist the marvel set. i've always thought that the attacktix rulebooks have been a little um, lacking...but i've been racking my brain trying to decipher what the difference between special powers and effects? am I missing something? is this a new rule for marvel set... I guess an example is the wolverine with the spring loaded claws (not the starter set wolvie) his special is recover, but the rulebook mentions some ability about moving an additional 6 tix and attacking a leader or something...it also lists some 'effects' for other figures, but some match their powers...

The difference between a special power and an effect is that an effect is always "on" while a special power only activates when they're dead.
For example, Booster Wolverine has the effect that whenever he kills a Leader while another X-Man is inplay, he can move six tix and make another attack. This effect is always active.
Wolverine's Recover, however, only turns on when he falls over and is white underneath.
A figure with an effect can be spotted by a small wall on the base, behind the figure itself. This wall has the entire special power listed so you don't have to memorize it.
I hope this helps!

Excellent question and answer, but I would like to add that in the Quick Start Guide, the pictures of wolverine #9 did not show he has an effect panel. Here is a better picture to help explain what Grievous is describing.

Booster Wolverine has the effect that whenever he kills a Leader while another X-Man is inplay, he can move six tix and make another attack. This effect is always active. I would just like to add that Wolverine does not have to be the one to kill the leader, the effect says when a leader is defeated, so any figure can kill a leader and wolverine can make an additional 6 clicks and attack. This is handy because a lot of leaders in this series are tough figures to knock down with a 1/4 inch prod.

The guy helped design the figure so his word is basically law. He says Wolverine has to do it, then Wolverine has to do it. No playing with grammar allowed.
