I have traded with a friend twice now to get Thor. The first was a fine figure with a base that doesn't allow the wheel to move at all (I need to take it apart still).
So I traded for a second and was kind of surprised to find that the hammer strikes upward. I thought for sure that I was just having trouble with the way the arm was a little tight. I figured it must be just a little bit of that backward swing I can sometimes get with other figures.
So I shot it with a bit of WD-40. Now the arm swings just fine, but still with the hammer springing upwards instead of down.
At one point, it hyper-extended far enough to click. But even then the spring was pushing it in the upward direction.
I still have never taken a striker apart. Is it possible that this was just misassembled?
I'm wondering if it is a running change on Thor. Because I seem to be more effective with this one than the overhead smasher.

I don't know if that is a change, but I would like to get one of those!

Wow, Mine goes down, up would be an improvement I think. Mine isn't that strong and when pulled up too far it is weaker than it was before.

I was PMing ionicdesign.com on this throughout today, but my Thor's swing is pathetic. I used WD-40, and tried the arm clicking, but he basically will gently land the hammer on your opponent, which is of no value.
BUT - when I tried the upswing (holding the hammer down and sliding my finger off to let it spring up) the "up shot" is effective in knocking down a figure if it can hit an arm that is extended out from the body of the opponent (so against IG-88, unless his gun is out, this won't work).
So, my Thor isn't going to be causing much damage. But man is that hammer cool looking!
