I may play, as I'm getting a couple extra bucks lately from shovelling driveways and quitting the Naruto TCG.

Mmmmmmmm this is a rip of off wizards of the coasts star wars starship battles so dont buy You do realize that that is EXACTLY like saying "Don't buy Attacktix, they're a rip-off of action figures" or "Don't buy model cars, they're a rip-off of diecast"? They're entirely different products. Starship Battles is an expensive, indepth game that you'll probably have to go to a card/hobby shop to find consistently. This will most likely have simple rules but be cheap and easy to find at places like Wal-Mart. Another key point is that WotCs stuff are actual highly scaled models that look cool while these are little, buildable cardboard cut-outs. Basically, they're entirely different products that happen to have the same core theme. I'd buy them both if I had the cash.

I was lucky enough to attend the NY Toy Fair on Minday of this past week, and even luckier to sit down for a quick demo of the upcoming game. Here's some of the info I received: - $4.99 per pack - Street date is 6/07 - No starter --> boosters will contain 4-8 random PocketModels, 6 Random game cards, 2 micro dice, complete rules and assembly instructions - Set will contain 81 unique SW vehicles (18 PocketModel designs), and 120 cards (includes 10 foil cards) - Tournaments will be supported - In addition to the boosters, there will be an "Imperial Power Up Pack", which will cost $14.99 and include 8 exclusive PocketModels including Imperial Star Destroyer and Darth Vader's Shuttle; 30 card fixed deck with 4 exclusive cards; full color strategy guide; 2 dice
From what I remember about gameplay, there are 3 areas in front of you...yours, a "neutral" area, and your opponent's area. There is no actual map, and each turn you get a certain number (I think it was 3) actions. One action is moving from one area to another. Another action is attacking.
I definately think the game will have some staying power. In addition to it being Star Wars, the gameplay was pretty good. One of the extras going for the game is also "kit-bashing", where you can basically combine 2 or more ships to form a new one. The guy who showed me the game combined pieces from an ARC-170 and an Imperial Shuttle. I can only imagine some of the interesting new ships that we can mix and match.
I hope this helps in everyone's quest for more information. If you have any questions, I can help with what I know...which probably isn't too much, but if I can help, I will!

Heh... Star Wars versus Pirates... but anyway, I'd like to start collecting these, but then I'd have another Star Wars collection that'd need to finish, and probably wouldn't.

I just get a little of everything! i have 4 ships from pirates of the spanish main, and lots of different trading cards. I'll probably get 2 or 3 boosters, and stick with that.

I agree with grievous. It looks like miniatures and this game are quite different. But the thing I like about attacktix is that they're 3-D, not flat pieces of cardboard (Don't get me wrong, I do play some TCGs) and it's more skill based then miniature games. You have to actually aim the gun, the d-20 doesn't do it for you.
