ICv2.com reported on a story that Star Wars maintained the number one spot among all licensed toys for the first part of 2006...interesting because I know there was a concern with a drop off heading into a year without the movies...

Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised by this news. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Hasbro's rights to the Star Wars license run out, given the plans for rereleases of the movies and the new TV shows - what a bidding war that might be!

I don't think Hasbro will let their license run out. They have a very good thing going and I wouldn't be surprised if they're already putting together a proposal to keep the license, especially with all the new Star Wars plans on the horizon.

I have no doubt in my mind that Hasbro will keep the Star Wars license. They've held it for this long, it's the number one license, and I just highly doubt that they'll just let a gold mine like SW slip through their fingers.

*sigh* I'm glad they're using it, but I feel at times it gets abused too so they can squeeze however much they can out of it while they have it (I know that's what business is about, of course). Have you seen the *ugh* Star Wars motorcycles? They make me miserable...
