I went to the meeting with Hasbro. It was really cool. They talked about the new saga figures that are coming out. There are some neat Galactic Heroes scheduled to come out. There are some really cooly spring loaded, fully collapsable, lighted lightsabers (cooler than Master Replicas? I don't know, you must decide for yourself). As far as Attacktix goes, they kept that very brief during the meeting. They said that series 4 is out and series 5 is in either concept or production stage, I forget. Regardless, it will be great when it comes out.
For any information of substance, Brian was the man to go to. Not only did he have the info, but he is a super cool guy to talk to. If he lived locally, he'd definitely be invited to a bar-b-que.
Here are some PARAPHRASED answers to questions I brought up:
We've made Attacktix in the form of Star Wars, Transformers, Marvel...we're also looking into fantasy based figures. Magneto vs. Gandolf for instance. Or perhaps some type of Magic the Gathering sort of figures.
Mixing the Various types of figures is encouraged. Tournament play does not restrict certain types of figures. You can play all SW or all Transformers or mix them as you see fit. The game was meant to have many different possibilities. Mixing universes is encouraged.
Hasbro is currently looking into selling missile packs; how many and what types have yet to be concluded.
We are currently looking into getting figures into a kids meal of some sort. (Why? Because it will spread attacktix across the county like a raging wildfire {my interpretation}) Who, what, when and where are still undecided.
Future sets are not currently planned for Locations, All Stars or Expanded Universe. Currently, the figures are based primarily on the movies since that's what the kids are mostly familiar with. It is important that a kid at any stage in collecting can get a Darth Vader and other main characters. So, those main characters will be in the sets. As the Star wars series continues, it is possible that other figures will make their way into the sets.
Hasbro is considering putting restrictions on powerful figures for tournament purposes like there are for the Megas. Jedi Knight, (10 point) Greedo, and Gold figures are the most likely candidates to have restrictions placed on them. {my team might not be legit next year}.
The Green Clone Trooper will be released in certain stores with series 4 Starters.
Mostly I want to communicate......Thank You. Thank You for being fans, Thank You for playing, and Thank You or being part of this on-line community that has fun supporting a great game. Thank You.
Once again, that is not a direct quote, merely my interpretation of a couple of conversations I had with Brian, who spent years getting this game prepared.
Ok, Comic-Con review time. That was the best week I had all year. I already bought my tickets for next year. I saw a lot of nerds, which made me feel very much at home in my Obi-Wan costume. I got some funny pictures, I bought some junk, regretted not buying more. Met a nice girl; and her fiancee (so much for that). Got in a lightsaber fight with the guy at the master Replicas booth and I'm going to continue to pretend I let him win
I went to go see Kevin Smith (who never showed up! grrrrrr). I won the 2006 San Diego INTERNATIONAL Comic-Con Attacktix tournament (which I believe qualifies me as the Attacktix champion of the world {the world is international} ). I had some fun ....I had a lot of fun with the kids at the Hasbro booth playing(/selling) attacktix. I do like making a good sales pitch. I got to play the Junior (not an adult) champion of 2006 and we had a fun match. He used all the silver figures he won and I played with some borrowed figures from the tables, it was a fun match. I got to meet Jedi Mind Trick, but unfortunately we never got to play a round against one another. I had a lot of fun hanging around the hasbro booth, playing games with kids, talking to Brian, taking pictures....lots of fun.
Finally, I would encourage you to go to the comic-con next year, buy tickets as early as possible, they are cheaper that way. Come as early as you can, so you don't have to do your shopping on Fri and Sat when there are lots of people around, make sure all members of your group have a cell phone on them, and finally, try to get a hotel close to the convention center, it would have made things a lot easier.
Do you have a team better than: 1 (Gold Based) Ki-Adi Mundi, 2 (Orange Uniform) Clone Troopers, 6 Jedi Knights ?
Maybe you can be the next World Champion? There's only one place to find out. Comic-Con.Org
