Not sure if this has been addressed here before or not, but if I knock a figure off the table, say #16 Armored Vader, and he is white with the recover ability, is he defeated since he can't stand back up out of play? Or would he go to the starting area/point of leaving?
Just a thought because it could change some strategy.

I play from the point where he left the table, just to keep it as close as possible. I suppose the figure was technically defeated when it left the field and not when it landed on the ground, so I think the last point where the figure was still in play makes sense.

Hmm. But it's not defeated until it actually leaves the play area, and the wording for Vader is "Stand up if you have a trooper in play." A figure can't stand up out of play, so my inclination is that the effect is void and the figure is defeated. Standing up can only take effect if the figure is in the valid playing zone.

I tend to agree with the former theory based on Golf rules. If you hit it out of play, you take a stroke and then drop it close to the point where the ball went out of play. theres my 2c worth!

I agree with sfTNT, Radar and the others, drop him in play as close as you can - and I would go 2 Tix in from the edge... Grind him too!
But the power is not voided, that is for sure, where you place him (edge or 2 Tix) is the only thing debatable... and I say flip a coin.

Hey, I have a related question... Let's say U whack Darth Maul, and he's white. Maul's owner gets to remove one of my Jedi (as he has hypothetically a Leader in Play). When he selects one of my Jedi to remove, does that Jedi's "White" special power still work, provided it is white? This came up last night as I slammed Maul with a shot to the dome from 12 tix with Grievous. He then selected my Obi-Wan (S3/Striker) for removal who happened to be white. Does this negate the pseudo-attack by Maul's special power? Can Obi-Wan stand up (as I had several troopers in play)

Same for Yoda or any Vengeance Power, the figure is removed without a chance for Special Powers to be activated.

The overwhelming opinion here seems to be return to play where he left, but I could see some technical arguments one way or the other. Guess it's my nature to think this way, playing too much Magic: TG in my younger days.

Keep in mind that Special Powers are basically written in "shorthand", because they have to fit on the base. I've shared with Joe before my version of "longhand" power descriptions...
For example, Recover is usually written "If White, Stand up if you have X in play" This can be shortened further to "Recover - Trooper" if you know the basic way it works. Now...long hand would be this..."Recover, When this figure is defeated, if you have a [Trooper] in play, instead of placing this figure in the defeated area, instead, grind it, then return it to play in the spot it last occupied."
