I've been enjoying the board I got from Malform, but I've been a bit concerned about its durability. Well, today I picked up a roll of clear contact paper from WalMart ($5) and used about six of its 24 feet to laminate my battle board.
It worked perfectly, was very simple to apply, and with one roll you could laminate four battle boards.

Well.. not an actual "arena" per-se, but I was wondering if anyone has gone out & purchased a 3' x 3' piece of black (or shaded) plexiglas & essentially recreated the board shown in the Attacktix instruction manual. I am thinking of doing this (complete with white starting lines, etc) & was looking for some pointers/advice if someone else out there has already done this.
Why? lol.. well, my house has wood floors, wood tables, or carpeted floors only.. so pulling out a play surface would be ideal (they actually do scratch wood floors just a little sometimes).
Thanks.

I dont know if anyone has done specifically what you are suggesting but i do know that there are plenty of people who use a bunch of battle cases to make and "arena". But it sounds like a cool idea, cept if your worried about scratching the hardood floors or tables, what do you think will happen to the plexiglass? lol.. are you a home owner? It doesn't bother me if a piece of plexiglas gets scratched bro.. lol. I just don't want my tables and hardwood floors going to heck.

I generally use 4 carpet tiles upside down, it wont get damaged, its grips really good cause its rubber, its not sticky, you can put as many as you want together for bigger games & you can spray paint it what ever color you want.

I have a simple, yet effective play board. I took two 36" x 48" plastic core (similar to foamcore, the plastic is used for outdoor signs, etc.) which I found at my local art supply store. White works best but other colors could be different areas... yellow: Tatooine, green: Endor, red: Mustafar, grey or black: Death Star/space station. I spray mounted the two peices together to they would be rigid and then used black electricial tape to mark the sides of a 36" x 36" (3 feet by 3 feet) play area. The extra 6 inches on either side of the play area works great for defeated/back-up piles. This play area is easy to store and can be used in a number of ways. Put it over a table to protect the wood. Use on carpeted floors. I personally place it on top of a card table. When I'm done playing the card table can be folded up in the corner with the play board behind it. No fuss, no muss, no bother.

That's exactly what I need too man.. thanks for the idea! I thought a piece of black plexiglas would be the best, but it would cost a lot more than foamboard and would weigh a lot more. I think i may just run with your foam board idea.. Much appreciated! (Thanks, too, for the info Phoenix.. I appreciate that as well.)

I build a 6ft x 3ftbattle board complete with terrain and its amazing. For space issue I put hooks on the corners and it fits on my roof so I can still walk under and doesn't take up my whole room.

I also left something out of my recipe... I seal the edges of the board with clear packing tape to keep the edges of the two boards together. And keep in mind that I used plastic-core not foam-core. The plastic core is more durable. Foam core would work as well, I'd just worry because foam core can 'dent' and you'd have a battle field full of dips and divots.

Ah yes, ok. Good point. How many people use "terrain".. & what terrain features are most commonly used? Anyone watch the speed paintball games on ESPN2 (or flip past them & catch a few minutes)? I envision an Attacktix board that could be similar.. with obstacles to hide behind and "lanes of fire".

I was thinking of getting some model railroad trees for some cover. Anyone do this?

for terrain I normaly just use old wooden blocks that I have, they work excllently plus they can be bowled into other guys with a powerful striker. For extra fun sometimes me and my opponent split the blocks up and make ourselves little castles then battle it out with a barren monopoly board and some boxes connecting them. He usually goes with a tall Keep and I just make a small reinforced wall for my S1 Grievous to kick arse from without having to worry about dieing and a small elevated platform for my Leia.

Just to let y'all know, we've got a terrain thread, where people have posted a lot of different ideas for terrain to use to spice up the game a bit.
