This is before my final touch-ups. I wanted to get a pic before there is no sunlight as my digital camera isn't working as it used to. I obviously need to touch up the hand that has some orange showing through. And I wish I had masked off the yellow/black caution striping rather than freehanding it. I'm debating now whether or not to put on an autobot symbol. Most of the Attacktix are missing their symbols entirely. Because I like things to look as close to production as possible, I was thinking Hasbro would probably skip it. But the big symbol was one of the major differences between Rodimus and Checkpoint. (and I do intend on giving him a new label)

I'd go with the symbol, especially if you have reprolabels to do it with.
---Dave, got ANOTHER Omnicon today, so is probably gonna break out the putty and do a physical mod.

Removed bits with X-Actor, Dremel and files, added bits with Milliput epoxy putty and styrene sheet plastic. Decided not to muck about with the gun much. Channel is a gadgeteer sort, so he could have cobbled together a big gun. The final product will likely not be able to stand up to real play (if nothing else, the helmet antennae could get broken), but it should otherwise be fully functional. ---Dave

This page has a bunch of drawings of Channel, a fan character I've been kicking around for a while now. The G1 version transforms into an information center (the thing on his left forearm is a speaker, and the yellow bit on his chest flips up to become an antenna, with the blue part under it becoming a monitor screen). No need to change the stats...Channel is more of a support guy, so his combat ability is about at Omnicon level anyway. ---Dave

Sunstorm is a relatively new character who exists solely as yellow and orange repaints of other Decepticon jets (mostly Starscream, but Armada Thrust was used too). He overflows with power (hence the flaming eyes effect) and often thinks he is on a mission from God. The pearl parts are pearl-colored Folk Art paint (87 cents at Wal-Mart), which came out nicely. I also used a thin layer of pearl to lighten the silver. The yellow is Reaper's "gold silk" paint. I may relabel the base, but I'd rather wait and do several labels at once. The color scheme I used is based on the "Legends of Cybertron" Sunstorm, which is only slightly taller than the Attacktix figure. ---Dave

Mini-Con is based on Skyboom, the remold of Sonar, and is more or less the right colors for that (or as close as you can get without clear plastic). In the recent "versus" packs, Skyboom got recolored and renamed Ramjet. Note that the shins are actually clear dark purple plastic on the regular toy, but under normal lighting look almost black. I went a bit lighter so you can tell it's purple. ---Dave Edit: Oh, and I used Reprolabels.com symbols for the wing and to change the label. I didn't change the special ability on the underside, but I suppose if I actually used this in play it'd apply to Decepticons rather than Autobots.

Couldn't do a complete mapping of the G1 Scorponok scheme, but I think it matches reasonably well. And I decided the colors didn't go with "subtle" so I didn't do any washes or highlighting. ---Dave

In this case, I'm very impressed by the repainting you've done on the gun. It makes the gun resemble diecast metal. Was the metallic paint within the Folk Art paint line or the Apple Barrel one? These repaints give me hope that maybe getting an Omnicon in my booster pack isn't as bad as it seems. (I've gotten 6 Omnicons out of my 14 TF booster packs! The only Decepticlone I've found is the special repainted one from Wal-Mart.) The trouble is that I'm only accustomed with the procedures for repainting metal miniatures and not the steps for repainting a plastic one (aside from the 'lifting the figure off the base' as mentioned in the custom Star Wars Attacktix thread)--mind you, not that I've actually repainted metal miniatures myself, but I used to watch someone else do it quite a bit. I do own a few Apple Barrel paints, which was why the mention of them was unexpected.

The "aged metal" color I used on Channel's gun was a Citadel minis paint I got ages ago. But I think there's a dark metallic in one of the craft paint lines. Anyway, the technique I used for most of the gun was to paint it black, then put on a deliberately thin and sloppy coat of aged metal, for that "pewter PVC" effect. The silver parts were just Folk Art silver.
Procedurally, Channel is the only one I've removed from the base so far. Otherwise, I just clean up the bases with gloss black paint where it's not feasible to just scrape paint splatter off. I also put a blob of poster putty over the tix window to avoid dripping anything on the numbers.

Whoo, new here. I know dvandom from another forum, and he pointed me here upon me doing a custom. And let's cut to the chase. This is inspired by an actual Transformers custom by a guy in Japan who goes by Freestyle. This can be seen HERE. It's Rodimus done up in Primus colors, a nod to the old comics where Primus resembled Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime.. Or I may have it backwards...either way.
