Yes, we are BIG geeks...
For the 7/2/07 8:00pm premiere of the TF movie, ArduisCane and I were in full cosplay mode:
He was G1 Shockwave and I was G1 Prowl. We started throwing around the costume idea when we first saw the teaser trailer about a year ago. The excitement for the project came and went and many things happened between then and now. Fast forward to one week before the movie's premiere. Neither of us have started our suits, despite the fact that we've been gathering supplies from the beginning. The week flies by and before we know it, it's Friday 6/1. Still no progress, and time is growing short. Much to my surprise, Arduis tells me that his plan for Shockwave is complete, and he'll be working on it on Saturday. Saturday and Sunday fly by as well, for me anyways, and on Sunday night after work I go to pick up Arduis to bring him to my house for our pre-TF movie-release slumber party. Well, that's not what we called it, but you get the picture!
When I get there, at about 10pm, he and his girlfriend are in the back yard putting the final touches on his costume. Immediately, the gears in my head start turning. Together, we finish up the work on Shockwave and depart for my house. I have a supply list running through my head, every thing I have versus everything I need. As I last minute decision, I take a detour to Walmart and we go inside to collect all of the necessary items to complete my Prowl costume. We walk out of there with 4 cans of spray paint, 2 rolls of duct tape, some Velcro patches, and a cheap plastic baseball helmet.
We finally reach my house around 1:30am, fall asleep quickly, and get up at about 9:30am. Less than 12 hours until the movie!
We ate breakfast and started work on our costumes immediately after. He needed to do some touch-ups with the paint, and re-attach some loose pieces, and, of course, I still needed to start mine.
After 6 hours of non-stopped work on my costume, I finished it! It turned out great, and you'd never guess that it only took 6 hours.
MM and Himura297 arrive at my house around 4:30pm and Arduis and I get cleaned up and we all eat an early dinner together. Before departing for the theater, we put all of the costume parts in the trunk of my car, and grab a roll of duct tape to take with us, incase we experience any technical difficulties.
We arrive at the theater at 5:35pm, and I park the car around the side of the building, giving us the opportunity to "suit up" away from the public eye. We stood around outside for a bit, on parade with our presumably embarrassed comrades, and then we went inside shortly after 6 and got in line. They let us into the screen room around 7, which gave us time to claim our seats in the top row, and wander around in the costumes for a while. Once the movie started, our helmets were getting pretty hot inside, so we took them off, but otherwise, we stayed in full costume for the entire film!
There were many people snapping pictures of us with their phones, and a few even wanted to get their picture taken with us! After the movie, we went outside and started a impromptu battle between Shockwave and Prowl, which MM recorded. We'll be posting that on YouTube soon, and I'll post pics of the costumes as soon as possible.
