Ataru created some Star Wars figure strategy threads a while back. I'm not sure what happened to those, but I figured it would be good to discuss what we've managed to do with the Marvel figures too. So my idea is that we'll just go through the different figures from S1 and discuss their weaknesses, strengths, defenses, strategies, etc. So I guess we'll start with:
M1-01 Spiderman
I personally like this figure. He's a 10 point striker with 12 speed, and an evade special power for Avengers at around 15%.
I think a lot of people complain that when they strike with him, his arm often rolls over the top of the figure, resulting in a knockdown but not launching the figure. However, from my experience, Spiderman bends well at the knees so you can usually position his striking surface underneath something protruding from the figure, such as an arm or gun. This allows the attacked figure to be flung quite well.

The best way to implement the strikerspidey sculpt (both versions) is to rotate the arm backward so it's facing the opposite of the normal way and attacking with what is essentially a spinning back-fist (back-web). This ends up so you don't miss or have the attack roll off, and you get a bit better leverage.

Alright, then I guess we'll go on to
M1-02 Punisher
My guess is that we won't spend too much on him. I personally don't like him at all. He's 30 points, can't tripod, my Punisher's spring is fairly weak, his special power, last stand, usually doesn't even come into play, and even if he was your last figure, the percentage isn't phenomenal at 38%. For 30 points, I'd rather put a S3 Stand Up Luke or S2 Starter Kenobi onto my team.

Agreed, Frank Castle has a couple things against him, for one he shouldn't have been a common, oh opps I mean "rare". He isn't useful to have in quantity (customs notwithstanding) and isn't a trooper sort of guy. As far as the figure itself goes TVC hit the key points well, he costs too much for what h has is relatively easy to knock over and has a fun effect conceptually, but isn't able to make use of it often. He's great if you want to make customs with the big gun, or an Elvis custom (has that Elvis snear going on) but isn't one of the betters from the set.

Does anyone else find daredevil to be an awesome figure? I have two of him and his spring is incredibly strong. He can almost lift my omega transformer megas and my star wars at-rt. He sends normal figures flying.

I like Daredevil too. I know he's great to team up with Elektra, which is the next figure. M1-03 ElektraThis is actually the one figure that I don't own from the Marvel Series 1 yet, so I can't really say much about her .

Also good custom fodder, j/k Thought not quite as serviceable as the Jedi Knight, she makes a decent 10 point striker as well and works well on a team teamed up with other DareDevils and Elektra because of their specials.

The things to watch out for with Elektra are the rotation of her arm upward when she tries to strike and the snapping of her sai tip when delivering a particularly powerful strike. The former of these problems can be overcome by maintaining backward pressure on the hilt of the sai, though this causes problems for preventing the latter. A 50% Attackback chance is nothing to sneeze at, even when i's for a figure like Daredevil.

Elektra is a good figure IMO. I like her speed, her %, and her striking ability.
Negatives about her would be what Y.B. stated. She can be cumbersome if you are not careful with her sai. I have broken the tips off of 2 of my Elektras.
Going back up to the top.
Spiderman is a pretty good figure. I compare him to Elektra. Great speed, % a little low but I do love evade, good strike when you know how to use him.
Punisher only punishes those who are foolish enough to put him on their team. Weak, pathetic, impossible to use competitively. The only thing that would have made him worse is if they would have given him Vaders "I surrender" attack from the S5 starter set.

Alright, I'll be looking forward to when I can get my hands on a few Elektras. I guess we'll move on to:
M1-04 Electro
Ten points, slightly more than the standard 15% ratio most 10 pointers get, and a large missile make him a good shooter in my book. I only have one S4 Starter Greedo, so I put Electro on my team as well since he's a cheap, large-missile launcher.

He's often good to have in multiples for cheap launcher support, inasmuch as he can bring himself (or other Sinister Syndicate figures - like SM Venom!) back. His fixed aim can be easier for people to deal with than Greedo's articulated arm, but it makes it harder to manipulate for the advanced player - bending him at the knees can really be a pain. Of course, with his small base, he's also easier to topple than Greedo, and with his arms always stuck out in front of him, his balance can be a bit iffy. He's the sort of figure that the Brotherhood needed in S1 to take advantage of Magneto's Sacrifice power. I agree that for the Marvel line, he's probably the best cheap launcher, and he has a lot to recommend him besides his point cost.

You have to love his special especially when you add in his cost value.
10 pts, 6 speed, small base, good special, decent % (though nothing to write home about), medium missile.
If you add the positives vs the negatives you get 4 to 2 in favor of.
That to me is a good figure.

Alrighty then, next is:
M1-05 Pyro
As a figure, I don't like Pyro much. For 20 points, you only get a small bullet and a relatively lame special. I definitely feel that he is a bit too overcosted.

Aaaahhh...Pyro. The most common common figure, with a gun that's hard to aim, and a low-grade special. I don't really like Pyro at all, probably because of his funky sculpt and poor SP. But, hey, what're you gonna do? Every series has to have "that one figure". Pyro gets a 2/10 from me.

Here's the deal with Pyro. He is lousy for this series mainly because Magneto needs "sacrifice a brotherhood figure" to stay in play. That leaves you with Pyro, Mystique, and Sabertooth as your options. Mystique has the abilities of possession for 20. Sabertooth is just an awesome figure for 20 points. That leaves you only with Pyro as your figure to sacrifice. I won't do it for 20 points. Now if we had a 10 point Brotherhood figure, then we might play Pyro on some of our teams. But, unfortunately I would rather have another Sabertooth or Mystique for 20 points.
