What is the point to buying the prototypes? Do they have their missile(s) and abilities?

What is the point to buying the prototypes? Do they have their missile(s) and abilities? Just for collectors to own a little piece of something special.

I have several prototypes, and Im almost always looking for more.
For me, the rarity factor is a big reason I like to collect them. I bet that most people that get a silver tournament addition figure dont use it for playing, they put it up somewhere. Because its "special" and much more rare than the average figure. Well, the same would apply to prototypes... And even though I dont think anyone has solid numbers on it, you could argue that prototypes are even more rare than the tournament figures.
Another big reason is the possibility of having a little piece of attacktix history in your hands. Obviously there are some prototypes that are more "special" than others. And if you could ever get a hold of a star wars prototype with a translucent lightsaber or missile, or if you are lucky enough to find a figure that was never released... Well, you cant get any more special than that. But most of the protos you see on ebay are just "test shots"... Still kinda cool, but any yahoo that works in the factory where they are made can go and run a few off in weird colors and then sell them on ebay.

I want that R5-D4 so bad. I really loved that little guy from A New Hope... too bad I'm broke.
The testshots of Grimlock really explain his attack - looks like he's a prodder, and his tail is the actuator. Perhaps his jaw even moves.

Would they still have their moves and abilities?

Would they still have their moves and abilities? Most often than not they are on incorrect bases. So the speed and special dont match up properly... And almost every proto I have doesnt have any stickers, and I have one lightsaber striker that cannot twist at his waist. Why would it matter anyway? You dont buy these to play with.... Aside from not having any of their stats correct, they cost way too much.

I was thinking of buying that G1 Optimus prototype, because he reminds me of the "decoys" that were either all red or purple. Here's a link: www.unicron.us/tf1987/index.rightcolumn.htmIf you scroll down to the bottom, you'll see the decoys.

The good thing about prototypes is that you can basically make whatever you want with them. YOU can choose the special power, speed, point cost, and you can even give them a custom paint job! OR you can put them on display and admire their glory.
