I dont understand how Whirl's mold has been reused 3 times... Are you referring to the wrong figure? dvandom was right in that I was referring to the transforming Whirl toy. I found a youtube clip that briefly shows the first appearance of Fire Guts Ginrai. He does appear at length later in the show and is undoubtedly what the transforming toy, apex Prime, and this attacktix Prime are all based upon. youtube.com/watch?v=fVBPYjRT9Mo Unfortunately, it is more than 8 minutes into that clip. I'm kind of expecting him to be an effect figure due to the fact that there are no clear effect figures shown and the fact that his higher point value should result in some sort of benefit. I think a major difference between TF and SW is that many of the different characters in TF _are_ repaints of older characters. I totally agree. Transformers lends very well to repaints. There are cases in the main line where I didn't see what they were going for, but there are other cases (Starscream/Skywarp/Thundercracker for example) when I get frustrated by not getting an obvious repaint. The only TF attacktix made so far that I can't imagine a good repaint of would be Dirtboss (though the vehicle mode of the original toy seemed to be crying to be made into G1 Gears). I also hope that they continue to be creative with the repaints as they are with the new Prime. There are a few Attacktix now that are new repaints (both Omnicons, S2 Thrust, S2 minicon, and Cybertron/Galaxy Force Prime in fireguts/apex mode). I'd also like to see those made as repaints of the originals so that I can have them transforming. I'll probably do some customs of my own. Skyblast should dye black rather easily.

sfx5000, I know your much closer to Hasbro than most anyone else here could even hope to be, so don't take my second opinion personally. Just a thought ;D Actually I'm as close to Hasbro as you or most people on this site are (minus Webhead who does some work for them, of course). I was just kidding around because I designed a Rancor that bent over and bit people. He even had a button on his stomach but it did something different. Your thoughts about the tail and thecasualoblivion post about a head prodder are great guesses as well and out of the three of us I think one of us has to have it right. Sorry, I just kind of gathered from how you talk that maybe you and Webhead are partners in crime.

No need to apologize. I didn't take any of your comments personally. I just a huge fan like everybody else here. In my case it just turns out that I'm also a graphic designer with a bit too much free time on my hands so I whip up some homemade fanboy digital creations.

I'm definitely going with G1 Prime and Megatron being in a starter, Starscream robot and Energon Demolishor being split between the starter and partnering with a new Mega. Which leaves one more unseen Autobot for the starter. Given that Whirl doesn't have Transform, I'm not thinking he'll be seen in robot mode in this wave. |sf>You know, Dave, it's also possible that the G1 Prime and the Megatron could have figures of the alternate modes to round out the starter and that the Starscream figure could hold onto Megatron's gun mode. "Transform into Starscream robot mode" just requires any Starscream figure. If the figure were marked as Megatron and Starscream, it would boost the demand for the Starter Set amongst fans of both characters. Such a figure like that could also have an effect to bring both Megatron and Starscream in from the back-ups upon the figure's defeat, which would make it unique among Attacktix pieces as one to pull two powerhouses from back-ups. After all, Starscream and Soundwave were the two characters who most often fired Megatron's gun mode in the cartoon and Hasbro is releasing a Soundwave in this series. Hasbro could have a separate Megatron "missile gun" glued into the character's hand and repeat the gimmick for Soundwave in series three (or they could just replace a new arm, etc). Furthermore, that would allow Energon Demolisher to be partnered with a Mega, and if the Mega were a green Devastator (or some other green Decepticon), they would go together quite well. Again, this is all conjecture.

Rather than seeing a starscream or soundwave holding a megatron gun, I would love to see a figure that is just a big gun on a base.

I did it for SW series V, so lets review the protos for Transformers series II:
1-Arcee--a 20pt launcher with a medium base, 8 speed, and Rescue sounds rather nice. Add in a medium missile and/or a high percentage on the Rescue and this figure is fantastic. 2-Omnicon--Shootback? This better be a good percentage or why bother. 3-Minicon--A Decepticon this time. Doesn't give Landmine an Attackback though. This would be fun if it was 6/26 Attackback(Warrior). Then this guy pairs up with Landmine great. 4-Decepticlone--hard to say with Shootback. 5-Dark Crumplezone--This figure had a bad strike to begin with. Give this a really high Recover and this is maybe a useful figure. Note that this figure should trigger Ransack just like the original. 6-Bumblebee--Can't really comment until we know what infiltrate does. How about a version of Rescue where Bumblebee comes back on your opponent's starting line. Can't see Bumblebee having anything other than a small missile. 7-Grimlock--This figure is a brick for being 20pts. It even kinda looks like it sits on a large base. I still think this is a head prodder. A 20pt prodder with Vengance and fantastic defense sounds nice to me. 8-Soundwave--I don't like a 30pt launcher with stun. Hope this is different. 9-Checkpoint--A 20pt Launcher with Capture. I like this! 10-Strongarm--I don't like that they made this 30pts, and an Autobot with Strikeback, whatever that means, isn't an encouragement. I like the original version at Botcon at 20pts with Recover(Leader) 11--Starscream(Jet)--Love the flying jet, and love that its only 30pts. I'd like to see this with a medium missile at least, that or lower the point cost. This Jet is from a different line than the robot Starscream from series I. The robot version of this Jet isn't among the booster figures, though I will say that the robot mode of this Jet carried an insanely large sword. Striker Starscream!! 12 and 13--Thrust--A repaint of Skyblast, that looks to do the exact same thing. 10 speed instead of 8 is a vast improvement though. 14--Whirl--Two launchers, 30pts and Evade. Sounds fantastic. 15-Optimus Prime--If you look at the picture this is 40pts and not 50pts. I like the speed of six on this figure, and am curious about the recruit. 16--Prowl--As with Soundwave, I don't like a 30pt launcher with Stun. 17--Dark Scorponok--30pt large based throwing striker with Vanquish. The original Scorponok lacked a really strong special power. This version is VASTLY better. Me likes. 18--Galvatron--Why is this different than Gold-Based Megatron. I miss the medium based 30pt version pictured among wave I.

Strikeback is probably like Shootback but for strikers. Specific attackback, in other words.

One thing I just noticed on Hasbro's site is that the if you look at the Thrust vehicle mode figure, it still says Skyblast on the base. Hopefully they will fix that before they start shipping the figures.

Oh, there's still some old-style speed bases on prototypes these days, such as on the Marvel ones. They just use what's available.

One thing I was hoping for (will try to convert when the time comes) is a 'dogfighting' fighter.
IE - Skyblast robot mode with the gun and Skyblast Vehicle mode with the spear, so then we'd have fast moving jets racing around the board. This would be suited to characters like Ramjet or Air Raid who typically like to ram their opponents in dogfights.

He's a freaking jet for christ sakes.
