People and things dying. I get to TixCon to have my parents call and tell me that my uncle died. I get back from TixCon, and I have to euthanize my wife's pet fish, who was floating vertically in the tank, barely gasping for air. Thank goodness I didn't know anyone at Virginia Tech. I completely agree with Grievous' comments about the Virginia Tech massacre. It is just terrible to know that someone could have that little respect for the sanctity of human life. Even just him killing himself is upsetting, but why take out so many other people in the process? It sort of reminds me of a guy a few months back that went on a driving-killing spree through several cities near where I live, purposefully driving into more than a dozen pedestrians before police stopped him. The thing at Virginia Tech was a lot worse though.

On a note moderately related to the Virginia Tech shooting, why is it that people do such things? If you want to die, just go kill yourself and don't try and bring people along with you. I guess I just don't understand why some one would want to go and kill many people for no reason. I would say in this case it is partially wrapped up in domestic violence. In these "modern" times women are liberated and have the right to think, vote, go to school, marry whom they wish,....but some men have a hard time grasping that women are people. I know it may sound silly, but it's like this whole news story about Don Imus calling a women's college basketball team "nappy headed hos". Women are still not treated as equals in America. There's a lot of groups and subgroups to blame for this, men, women, rappers, politicians, various religious cultures, governments, etc. But ultimately, the reason this guy went to shoot up his girlfriend......my guess is because he didn't actually consider her worth being human. Why did he shoot all the other people,...I don't know. But it seems to me the way we treat women in our culture causes a lot of violence.

I wasn't just talking about the Virgina Tech shooting, though. I was thinking about the whole big picture. What sort of thought process goes through a person's head before they decided it was time to pull the trigger on themselves and several others? It really sickens me that such people exist.
On a slightly more lighthearted note, why hasn't Hasbro made an Epic Duels expansion? Like Beast Wars Attacktix, this is one of those things where I just can't grasp the reason they aren't on the production list (as far as we know). The game has a massive fan following and is a ton of fun to play. They obvious know about the games awesomeness since they released a Transformers version (that I would buy if I had the cash...) but they still refuse to release an expansion. I WANT MY EPIC DUELS!!!

Radar, trying to understand these mass-murdering pukes will never happen. Sane people can never truly understand madness, from the maddened's perspective. I don't really know about the whole "way we treat women in society" bit, especially when viewed from the looking glass of other cultures. Look at the Tutsi tribesmen and the genocide in Rwanda? These sickos cut the breasts off of women so they couldn't feed their babies, and then left the babies alive to starve, and the mothers to watch it. That wasn't a man/woman thing, that was a crazy people thing. Look at the middle east, where it's just peachy to beat or kill your wife. The problem is that in many cultures, including ours, there is little compassion for fellow man. I'd say of all places, though, we're the nicest (if you can believe that), considering we give more money and goods to private charities than the rest of the world combined.
Nutcases will always snap, will always go on killing sprees, and will always be remembered as 'disturbed people who were reaching out for help' by a sympathetic media. At the end of the day, if we could identify the nutcase genetic marker and test for it, that's about the only kind of abortion I'd be OK with...unless the mom wanted to birth the child just so someone could throw the soon-to-be-nutcase in a well.

Rant of the Day - Web sites/forums that allow for ridiculous sized signatures, and then don't give you the option to turn them off! I swear to god, Wizard Universe might be the worst offender...apparently you can use a full size comic book cover for your signature, but god forbid we turn that option off so you can actually scan through a discussion.

I worked in the Domestic Violence Unit for over three years before I was transferred to Presentence Investigation. Domestic violence goes beyond man/woman thing. It is a power thing. The men who are arrested for domestic-related offenses generally have power/authority issues to begin with, and this characteristic is simply amplified in their relationships with women. These men are typically aggressive, impulsive risk takers who put other peoples safety and well-being way way beneath them. And yes, they are most commonly male (I only had perhaps a handful of women domestic violence offenders on my caseload). It's unfortunate that the domestic violence incident escalated into the senseless massacre at Virginia Tech, but he was a bomb about the explode anyway, and an isolated incident simply triggered it.

My Rant of the day comes from this joker... “Clearly, steps should be taken to protect children from excessively violent programming,” said Kevin J. Martin, the agency’s (FCC) chairman and a longtime proponent of à la carte programming. “Some might say such action is long overdue. Parents need more tools to protect children from excessively violent programming.” Yeah, like a remote control. I weep for the parents of small children who have tvs that they can't turn off or change the channel.

There is NEVER a time where I dont know what my daughters are watching on tv. They have a tv in their room, but its only for video games and dvds, no satellite in their bedroom.. I am the one that buys their dvds and video games..... So I think its pretty under control. If it gets harder to contain when they get to be teenagers, well, Ill just shut off the stupid satellite. See what kind of crap they can tune in on rabbit ears.

Exactly!
According to Jim...funny show, won't watch it with my daughter. Just a few too many pg-13 words. It's just that easy.

For you guys that have children, does it scare you to be raising a child in such a morally bankrupt world? I'm not a parent yet, but one day I will be, and the thought of bringing an innocent into this mess of a planet makes me doubt whether it's even worth it. Just in a week's time, Western PA's had 2 school bomb threats: one a high school, and the other AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. Oh, and did I mention, the high school that was threatened is the one I graduated from, and the one my younger brother currently attends?! It's got to make you wonder when this will end. Evil will always exist, and it's childish and too idealistic to think it won't, but why innocent victims, why kids? It'd be nice if all the scum in the world suddenly had a epiphany that told them to kill other scum. Molesters get killed by rapists, rapists get killed by drug dealers, drug dealers get killed by mass murderers, mass murderers get killed by terrorists, terrorists get killed by jay-walkers, and jay walkers get arrested. The end

The end So, are those jay-walkers getting arrested for jay-walking? Bomb threats... you really think thats something new? There were several of those I remember back in the 80's.. Kids knew that if there was even the stupidest of threats of a bomb, school had to shut down.. And there were kids that would take advantage of that, and call in a threat just to get out of school. Terrorist attacks, and random shootings are nothing new either.... As long as there have been people, there have also been the screwed up in the head kind of people as well. Raising kids isnt that hard, it just depends on what kind of steps you are willing to take to shield them from certain things. And it can be as easy as shutting off the stupid TV. My 2 daughters and I moved to a small town with a small school out in the sticks back when they were 2 and 3 years old.... You would be amazed at how innocent they are, I know I am at times after I see some other kids their age.

You would be amazed at how innocent they are, I know I am at times after I see some other kids their age. I've considered that factor too, but it's a shame you have to move to the sticks to find/maintain innocence. And I know there's always been and always will be bad people, but I hate to think the only thing that will stop this snowball effect is Armageaddon...

I wish to revive this thread so that I can tell my story.
I go to Target on Thursday (my day of pillaging ;D). While I was in the check out line the lady in front of me was being checked out by an elderly lady who had no idea of what she was doing. She maybe even though she was working at Walmart for all I know. Anyways, she is taking forever so I start talking to the lady behind me just to bide my time. She totals up the lady in front of me and forgot to scan some coupons. So another Target lady had to come over and help her total again and then scan the coupons and then do a final total.
I felt that I was being patient when finally the lady in front of me was able to get her stuff and be gone. The old lady who checked her out went on break and the lady who was helping her took her place. As the old lady was walking away she said "sorry it took so long, but she (referring to the other Target lady) knows more then me". I shrugged it off as no problem.
As the "more informed lady" was beginning to check me out I asked her if she could see if I have a balance left on my Target gift card. She scans it, with no results. She starts punching numbers and stuff on her keyboard muttering to herself as to why the computer isn't responding properly and scans it again with no results. I am being patient and decide that it really isn't no big deal and ask her to just forget it. She keeps my card and continues to punch numbers and tries to scan it, with big surprise, no results. Finally she gives me back my card and keeps saying "I don't understand why it isn't working". I tell her "no problem, just go ahead and scan me so I can check out". The check out lady in the next aisle hears us and asks whats the matter. Keep in mind there are other people waiting behind me starting to get REALLY irritated. The lady scanning me starts a conversation with the other check out lady about the whole deal. I tell her again not to worry about it and please just check me out. She on the other hand just keeps talking to the other check out lady and still isn't getting the big picture that everyone is getting really tired of waiting. Finally she starts punching numbers and stuff on her keyboard and I am thinking "ok, here we go, she is finally going to start scanning my items and checking me out". Instead she once again starts grumbling as to why she can't figure out why it won't work! So, me, not wanting to be rude, but really wanting her to get the point say for the umpteenth time "can you just please scan my stuff, I really don't care about the card, I just really want to get out of here". She finally gets the point and concedes to MY NEEDS and checks me out.
In conclusion; I would have just left if it wasn't for the fact that I was able to get such a great deal on the Attacktix that I bought. But man, oh, man, did those women really get on my nerves. Hope I didn't ramble on too much or confuse any of you with my story explanation.
The End.
