Announced today...the Force Unleashed video game will be released on the Wii, including a unique "use the controller as a lightsaber" aspect...
...as if I needed another reason to buy a Wii for next year!

Very nice, we have the Episode III Tiger game that uses a sabre as a controller. Good fun, and some exercise. This will be the same sort of thing with a much more dynamic game, very nice!

Finally! A Star Wars game is coming to Wii! It's gonna be so awesome...I always said there should be a game where you use the Wii-mote as a sword. I can hardly contain my mega-enthusiastic excitement!

I just go to try a Wii like 2 week ago and it was a lot of fun (yes I am very Un-hip like that) and the first words that came out of my mouth "When are they going to make a light saber game for this? That would be awesome!" I may have to go get one asap! Must convince the wife that it is somehow good for the children's education! Hmmmm? Think man think!!

Actually, they just came out with a "non-competetive" game intended for 0-3 year olds and the Big Brain Academy is intend to stimulate brain functions. Convince away!
Yeah, I'm super excited about the lightsaber wii game, I've been thinking that was a good idea since Red Steel. They also have the Lego Wii compilation game coming soon.

While I don't have the new Wii Big Brain Academy, I do have the original for the DS. It might be a little over a 6 year old's head it it's anything like the DS version which had you figuring out which stack of coins was worth more or figuring out which animal weighed more by using many, many scales. Perhaps in a few years? Another point you can make is that it can be used as a type of workout machine. Wii Sports (which is packaged with the console) has been proven to be a good fitness aid (someone did an experiment and lost nine pounds in nine weeks during the holiday season just by playing it 30 minutes a day, no other diet changes). There will also be Wii Fit in the near future which comes with a balance board that is supposed to let you do things like Yoga and fitness minigames and whatnot. Might not help convince via the kid but it helped us convince our mom to get one. Another thing you can argue for is that it teaches reading. I've heard of people using a child-aimed life-sim called Animal Crossing to teach their children how to read. The game has tons of text and no voice acting so if a child wants to play, they'll need to read so it'd help teach that (theoretically, or they just bother the parent, your risk ). The Wii version of AC isn't out yet but it should be in the near future. As for price, I doubt it will go down any time soon. The demand for the Wii is quite a bit higher than the supply at the moment. It'd be foolish for Nintendo to drop the price right now. If a price drop comes, it'll likely be sometime in mid/late-'08.

My daughter is 5 years old and plays Big Brain Academy. She is slow at times, but at 5 I feel she does really well. I love it because I can actually turn it on and know that she is learning and not just rapid button pushing. Another game she loves is Wario Ware. She has a blast with it!
By no means am I suggesting ALL kids can play BBA. I just know me nina loves it.
I am super syched about Star Wars on the Wii. I just like everyone else here thought about using the Wii mote as a lightsaber hilt. Now our dreams can come alive!

I no longer need an educational Excuse to get a Wii. The wife is convinced and we found one at the target just the other day. SO COOL! It was harder to find than I thought it would be. Only problem It's for X-mas! I gotta wait till Christmas morning to play with it..GRRRRR! and I'll have to share with my 6 year old and wife. BOOO! Hisss!
What games do you guys recommend We ask for for X-mas? A friend O' mine says Madden is fun but hard.

Super Paper Mario is a good one...it's tricky at times, with the puzzles and the flipping between 2D and 3D, but it's a whole lot of fun. Metroid Prime 3 is also an awesome game. A great Shooter and Adventure game. And then there's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Lego Star Wars: The Game The Complete Saga, and Super Mario Galaxy, games I haven't played, but look fun.

Zelda: Twilight Princess was a lot of fun on the Wii. Mario Strikers Charged (a soccer game) is also a lot of fun. However neither of those is really good for kids. Mario Party 8 is one that my kids enjoy - filled with minigames that are pretty simple yet fun. My wife has enjoyed playing that one as well and she's not at all into video games.
