Got the Devastator pack last night...it comes with 2 special X-Wings, 2 each of special TIE fighters, and Vader's Shuttle, plus a 30 card deck of the playing cards. Ships look fine...cards look nice...probably will give the full game a whirl this weekend.
Anyone find any boosters?

IS this that game that you use spacecraft as the 'heroclix' so to speak? Like massive interstellar ship battles? I really wanted to get those...I love naval warfare.

They gave me a free pack at the Star Wars Convention Celebration 4. I don't know, dice, cards, mat.....and the ships don't even shoot anything! I think I'll just stick with 'Tix.

In this game, there are three zones, yours, your opponents, and the contested space in between, so that's it for movement. Tactix are handled by using the cards, but they are mostly straight bonuses. If you want a Star Wars game with a little more in the way of traditional tactics, like flanking and what not, the existant game by WotC might be more to your liking.

No, I was actually confused. I went to Waldenbooks and saw what I thought it was - Star Wars Miniatures Space Battles. This has the little ships (plastic) and whatnot. That was the one I was interested in. Do you know anything of it?

Superfly TNT: That is Star Wars Miniatures. Webhead817: Is there a starter set? It must be fun.

I got a free trial pack that came with a Red Squadron X-Wing, a Dark Squadron TIE Fighter and a Scythe Squadron TIE Fighter. A bought my first booster a few days later, which contained a Specter Squadron Y-Wing (my favorite!), an Avenger Squadron TIE Interceptor, a Saber Squadron Leader TIE Interceptor, a Squad 3 V-Wing, a Squad 4 V-Wing, a 31st Flight Droid Fighter and a 128th Flight Droid Fighter.
I think I'm hooked. ;D

At this site you can print out a coupon for a free trial set. They even list the places near you that are likely to have some in stock. First place I went to around the corner from me had some on hand, but they were running low. First impressions: Pretty inexpensive - $13 for the starter set, $5 for boosters. The way they suggest you play it (30 points worth of ships and 30 cards per side), plan to spend about $50 right off the bat. I am generally adverse to games involving cards and dice, so this is big minus for me. Not having played it yet, the rules seem a bit complicated, but probably get easier after a few rounds of action. Not a huge diversity of ships. The game seems to rely on the cards for variation. But this would have been an unfair knock on Tix after series 1. I am not sure about committing to this yet. I am curious to hear what people think of the gameplay.

superflytnt, here's some summary information from the manufacturer about the Star Wars Miniatures Starship Battles game I think I'll have to take a quick peek into my local comic shop to see if I can get a free sampler - thanks for the link! I've modified it to be clickable.

Yes, and with a birthday coming up, I am hoping it will be in hand shortly. The Imperial Power pack that includes the destroyer seems to be a good deal. It includes 7 other ships and 30 cards.

My problem with Pocketmodel is that they are so darn fragile. When trying to put together one of the promo TIEs from Celebration IV, half of the central body broke off.

My problem with Pocketmodel is that they are so darn fragile. When trying to put together one of the promo TIEs from Celebration IV, half of the central body broke off. I had the same experience with one of my sampler TIEs. The solar panel's hole was a bit too small, and I learned to place the panel on top of a table, then hold the body vertically and thrust one of the pegs through it. Lather, rinse, repeat for the other side. However, my obvious difficulties with constructing even the simplest vehicles showed me that this isn't a game for me.
