The best way to get 1,000,000 studs is to buy the multipliers from the Cantina. They may not be as fun as buying other characters or extras, but you don't need a lot of the other characters or extras initially, and if you save for the multipliers, you'll be glad you did. And they multiply each other, if that makes any sense (for example, if you buy the X2 multiplier and then the X4 multiplier, you'll be getting X8 studs). If you get all the multipliers, you'll be getting millions of studs for just grabbing one blue stud.
That's probably not much help, though, if you're having trouble getting enough studs to buy multipliers. The best place I've found to rake in the studs is the Mos Eisley Spaceport level in A New Hope. You really need to be playing in Freeplay for this to work. For starters, make sure you destroy all the trash cans and destroyable items throughout the level, because there are a lot of them. There are also a couple different routes you can take through the level, and it's hard to explain where they are, but if you play it a few times you'll see what I mean (they both lead to the place where you fight the stormies on dewbacks though). This area is the "money spot" in the level. Make sure you destroy the sets of double doors to the left of the screen, then destroy the multiple piles of "manure" for lots of studs, then use the force on what's left behind for even more studs (quite a few blue ones). However, the biggest money to be found is in the movie theater you access with Artoo. Smash all of the seats in the theater for starters, then destroy the lights in front of the screen to open the curtain. Finally, destroy all of the movie screen for a huge amount of studs. After that, beat the boss to finish the level, and voila...you should have gotten quite a few studs if you scoured the rest of the level pretty well (you can get a few extra studs for driving a speeder into the blue car wash thingy then driving it over into the "used speeder" lot too). I did this a couple times when I needed big studs and it gave me more than any other level in the game, especially when I had the multipliers also. I got 100% of everything on this game a while back ago, so if you need any more tips, just ask.

It's excellent. I was a little worried at first because my favorite part of the first one was slicing and dicing as Jedi characters, and I knew there would be a lot fewer, but I actually prefer the blaster characters in LSII (most of them, anyway). Slapping and punching your enemies (and your buddy) is addictive after a while. The thing that really made me want to play was trying to figure out how they'd turn stuff like Luke's visit to Yoda or the Luke vs Vader confrontations into two player situations.
