At any rate, I think that Darth Maul is one of the most poorly developed (onscreen, at least) important characters in the Star Wars universe. I'm pondering the idea of writing a synopsis of an alternate universe take on the prequels, in which Jar Jar is non-existant, with nearly all the screen time devoted to him being instead focused on Darth Maul as an assassin. But that'll have to wait until after I have a job

Sounds cool, Y.B. If you need any reference materials, be sure to check out Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, and the e-novella Darth Maul: Saboteur. These give great insight into the character.

Darth Maul is definitely cool. After my initial viewing of AOTC, I was underwhelmed by Count Dooku and I had wished that Maul would have survived the Battle of Naboo and ultimately been the one that Anakin would have to defeat. But over time I realised that it was vital for Maul to be killed in order to bring a political head into the fold with Dooku. Anyway, I'm sure Maul's backstory is great but I think the mystery that surrounds him on screen adds greatly to the character. I would never want to lose that. Plus, I can't stand EU. And I met Ray Park at C3 and he is a great guy. So, yeah, Maul is OK in my book.
