"...you cannot use your own figures."
That's too funny. I would probably cry a little too.
I guess get there early to pick your team. If they have figures for 100 people, you could probably make any team you want if you get there early enough.

They're trying to draw in as many non-players as possible to show the game to new people. I assume that the majority of the players for it will be people who have never played. We can still whip them based on our experience, even without our collections. It takes a little practice to become a good striker, and newbies won't have our marksmanship either.
***added later***
They could be real jerks, and leave some figures out of the mix, like Wicket, Jedi Knight, and Gold Ki-Adi-Mundi. Maybe leave out S4 Greedo as well. It doesn't really change my strategy much, since I don't play without Transformers. I could still probably field a team with S4 Vader and Optimus as a Truck and do just fine.

Probably true about the newbies; the thing that really irks me about this ruleset is that it has the potential to really screw up the effectiveness of special powers. Now, the teams I tend to put together aren't terribly reliant on special powers, but those are based on having tons of 10-point figures. However, when dealing with 20+ point figures, their speical powers are often what make the team. I wonder if I could use my own figures, if I then donated them to the Hasbro pile after the tournament That would cheese me off mightily, but I could probably adapt. We are Borg. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

A tidbit from this I missed, but you should keep in mind:
Backups: You are not allowed any backups
So much for Transform and Recruit!
***added later*** Here's a thought: It says the tournament is providing the figures for up to 100 players. I seriously doubt we're going to see any Series I or Series II in that mix. The example in the tournament rules mentions older figures, but even still I doubt we'll see any. If that is what they're doing, I'd think that Hasbro is providing the figures, almost certainly from current stock. This means Series IV and Transformers, with a very strong possiblility of leftover Series III. Now that changes things even more than just not being able to use your own stuff.
10 Wickets anyone?

There goes the effectiveness of the special effects for vehicle modes, Insecticon, Scorponok, and any other characters who use back-ups (along with my main strategies...). It'll certainly make the whole logic behind teams into more of a challenge. The other curiosity is the fact that it mentions that you have to sign up at the Transformers Club store--I hope that they mean the one at the convention and don't mean 'online', because many of us don't have access to a laptop. ***added later*** Here's a thought: It says the tournament is providing the figures for up to 100 players. I suspect the only Star Wars will be Series IV, especially if these are being provided by the Botcon staff, instead of Hasbro itself. This sounds like a sneaky effort to tempt Transformers fans into seeing and trying the Star Wars Attacktix. If these are really being provided by Hasbro, I suppose it's possible that we might see Arcee, Dark Scorponok, Strongarm, or Galvatron. If that's the case, it would clearly explain why Hasbro wouldn't want any figures to disappear and it could also explain the high registration costs this year. This page doesn't bring up the 'practice' play night on Friday though. I wonder if "use Hasbro's figures" stands true for the game night as well. I still plan to bring some figures from my collection to Botcon, but I'll probably bring more of my 'to trade' extras than I'd originally planned.

(That was before Attacktix though.) You're absolutely correct on the strikers. However, I wouldn't always assume that Transformer fans would have poor marksmanship. Transformers have had spring-loaded weapon toys for far more years than Attacktix has been around.

Does it say you can NOT use your own, or you don't HAVE to?
Anyone know for sure?

Anyone know for sure? |sf>To quote further from the web page-- As it says at the end, you cannot use your own figures for the actual tournament. There are two Attacktix events there however. The other one (the gaming night on Friday) might allow us to use our own figures for fun, since they also allow people to bring MtG cards, etc.

I won't let you down! ;D |sf>Well, on the plus side, with 100 people in the contest, the odds are that those on the boards shouldn't have to fight each other for at least a few rounds. (Maybe I'll have a chance of lasting the first round! ). BTW, another thing I find interesting from the rules is that the playing area will be 48" x 30". Does that mean that the 48" side will be the distance between the players?

1) I was curious - the sign up is actually going to be at the convention (I wasn't sure if the Transformers Club Store meant it was an on-line sign up that you did before you got there or what).
2) Also, does anyone know what time the tournament starts? I haven't seen anything (perhaps I've just missed it)?

I thought that this was a reference to a booth at the convention site itself, but I can't swear to it. According to the online brochure, pairings start at 10:30. You'll need to be signed up by 10:15, though.
