Hey guys, I still pop on here every once in a while and see what all is going on... congrats on all the SW5 stuff! The newest hobby at our house is Skylanders, and I started a forum about it. Today Zincdust joined (our 11th member!) leading me to wonder if any of the rest of you had the game. Even if you don't you're still welcome to join us skylanders.proboards.comI really enjoyed this forum and feel like I actually had some meaningful connections with people through it. I don't know if that will happen at our new site or not, but I'm going to do my best and we'll see what happens. I probably won't ever achieve Joe Manzo status, but at least I have a good target to aim for ;D

Ok, your Skylander Forum is looking good. We know nothing about the game except some commercials we saw. Is it interactive with a Spyro video game and just how much fun is it?

Overall it's a pretty fun game. I think some of the value depends on if you've got others to play with, because PvP adds a lot to the experience.
It's a 3d hack and slash, kind of like a Ratchet and Clank with fewer bad guys. The characters themselves are reminiscent of Pokemon, with eight different elemental types including water and fire. The story is creative and well planned. The worlds are very colorful and creative and there's a wide variety in abilities and play styles of the 32 characters.
However, what really makes the game unique is the way it works: there's a wireless USB device called the portal of power that you place your physical characters on. When on the portal they appear in the game. As they level up and gain new abilities, the information is stored on the physical character rather than your console. That means you can take the figure to a friend's house and it will remember all you've done to/with it.
The only real drawback is that it has sold a lot faster than Activision anticipated, and therefore the figures are hard to find in stores. 9 of the figures have yet to be released, although a few more will be out in mid-January.

Yep, that announcement is what's blowing up all the conversation now. It looks like this game has a future (at least an immediate one) ... you guys should check it out!

It looks super fun but I have a couple of issues jumping into it...
1. I'm still rocking the original XBox and would have to buy a new gaming system. 2. My obsessive (but self restricted) collector personality would require me to: "Catch 'em all" and right now I'm putting my limited resources into.. a) collecting SW Attacktix S5 (just put a few hundred $$ into that recently) b) collecting Transformers Animated exclusives (rare Japanese, Botcon 2011) which I also put a few hundred $$ into recently.
So my better nature is currently holding my worse nature off on this coolness for now. I'll live vicariously through you guys for now
