Better buy as many semi-auto firearms... er... Assault Weapons and ammo as you can because you can be sure the ban is coming back. Sad, but probably true. Good thing I've built up my personal arsenal. Between me, my brother, and my cousins, we have probably between 20-30 military firearms. We are all responsible and law-abiding gun collectors, and it's truly sad to see beautiful machinery get slapped with such an evil label. Guns are nothing more than machines. People who fear them and want them banned just don't understand them or respect them enough to use them properly. But that is one thing that did weigh on my mind considerably this election.

I saw a bumper sticker that made me laugh.
Guns kill people like my pen misspells words.
I thought it was pretty funny.

Yes, guns don't kill people. They just make it much to easy. I've said it before we should al just have short swords on our belts. If you really want to kill someone you're going to get right in their face and put yourself at risk to do so.

On the subject of weapons and the fact the President-elect Obama is against firearms. I see nothing wrong with a simple handgun or a hunting rifle in the hands of the responsible, but responsible or not there is absolutely no reasons for a high powered, semi, or full automatic guns in an average Americans household.
And yes carrying a sword would be amazing! ;D

But there is a reason - the sheer pleasure of it. Why must some people have Harleys when all they need is a moped to get around? Assault rifles just have a negative label slapped on them, but most people who own them shoot them for sport, just like some people like to ride their Harleys on a Sunday morning. Lots of things we have we own for sheer pleasure - DVD players, Blue-ray, Wii, etc. It's very easy to forget that for a lot of people, firearms are simply owned for the fun of it, if used properly. If we start restricting firearms on the basis of "no reason to own them," then I say don't stop there - gone are the Harleys, Wiis, DVD players, and frankly most everything we possess in this world of expensive and often pointless technology (do we really really need a PSP3???).

Don't get me started, there is a very real reason. It has nothing to do with hunting or the sheer pleasure of owning firearms.
It is simply to be able to protect all our freedoms and other constitutional rights, be it from a foreign enemy or even our own government if it becomes tyrannical.

And plus, 9-11 pretty much made the point that anyone with a mind bent on mass murder can do so without even pulling a trigger! Yet I don't see a call to ban jumbo jets. Banning firearms merely gives the killers out there more creative and perhaps more devastating ways of mass murder. The bottom line is anyone who really wants to commit mass murder can do so in a variety of ways that are otherwise completely harmless and accessible. The whole "guns kill people" mentality is just a straw man tactic that doesn't address the problem of mass murder at its roots - the murders.
But anyway, I don't want to start any huge debate - I know there are many people who have very passionate reasons to disagree with everything I said. I'm a responsible gun owner and just feel put out sometimes that guns get blamed on too much than they are worth - people will still commit mass murder with or without assault rifles.

I think we can all respect that you are a mature and responsible gun owner. However, the continued manufacture of small firearms and assault weapons allows common criminals to become much more deadly.
It is true we have not banned Jumbo Jets for their ability to kill people, but I believe there are laws that prohibit, grenades, rocket launchers, sawed off shot guns, brass knuckles, nun chucks, knives over 4" in length, concealed weapons of any kind, flame throwers, and a host of other really fun items. Seriously, could you imagine all those things mounted to a wall in your basement....Awesome.
So, we have laws in place to restrict the kinds of weapons people can carry, and those laws fluctuate over time.
In fact, a NY Giants player was recently arrested for having a (concealed) hand gun in New York. Hand guns have been such a problem in new york that they recently changed the gun laws and where he might have gotten probation before, he is now expected to spend 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 years in jail over it. BTW, he got caught because he went to a hospital after shooting himself in the foot and he is expected to plead not guilty.
Society changes and will change it's laws to protect it's citizens.
