I thought it would be nice for people to share their ideas on game formats. I came up with "Choose Your Opponents Team" and people seemed to enjoy it. So perhaps if we share ideas on game ideas we can come up with some interesting games for the next TixCon or other event.
I'd like to submit "Even Draft" Each player choosed an even (or odd so long as both agree) number of figures, they lump them in a pile and draft from the pile. One player picks one for his team, then the next chooses one and so on until all the figures are chosen. The player that chose second gets to be the first player to take a turn (move & attack).
I just thought it was an interesting variation on choose your opponents team. Also it provides that even if you dont have access to a Yoda or S4 Vader or etc... that you can still have a fair chance at competing, even if the squad you bring to the table is weaker than what your opponent brought.
Also, you can't really plan ahead for team synergy, so players will rely on knowlegde of the figures and a little luck to help them make their teams.

That is how we often play as a family and with friends. It is fun and does do many of the things you mentioned mixing up the dynamics and things a little.

When I had a competition one time at my house we did a sort of "relay".
What we did was divide into groups of 3. Each person picked 100 points to make their squad. So each TEAM has 300 points. First players would compete. After the first game was over the person who won would keep his REMAINING figures and return them to the starting line. Then he would play the next person in line until his squad is finally defeated. Once it is then the person next in line steps up and puts his squad into action. Now each team is on their second person, but the second team is down a few figures (presumably) due the the first team (hopefully) taking out some of the second teams figures before his squad was finished off. You just keep going through each member of the team until you finally defeat all 300 points!
We had a lot of fun with it here. One match we didn't even use our 3rd person on our team. We whooped the second team with only 2 squads.
This could be lots of fun and promote each of us to cheer one another on.

One thing i personally don't like about the even draft is you can try and accomodate your team to be the best way to beat the other team.
ex. you see your opponent take Grievous and destroyer droid with his first picks. Then i would take plo-koon right away.

Welcome to the board Clawstrikersrock. I hope you enjoy the boards as much as I have. I would have to disagree with you a bit on that one. If somebody wants to draft Plo Koon, then that's fine by me. In fact it makes the game more enjoyable if I know somebody is actually going to use Plo Koon.
