I'd bet that just after the press release Hasbro determined how long it would take to get the line to market and at a keenly determined time had their fleet of lawyers send over a finely crafted Cease and Desist brief claiming patent infringement on a number of counts. This time would be aimed at hurting Mattel the most by having to retool existing equipment and revamp marketing, packaging, and all ancillary items. Ouch. Or, Mattel saw how Hasbro was struggling to market their own action figure game with all the talks of the hiatus and proper placement.... And just decided it would be easier to go the action figure route and forget about the game.

So, I wonder if these will be blind packaged toys (like the Create-a-Hero) or if they will just be clear-carded and pegged?

Now that they are just action figures, I hope they are clear packed in some way... I am totally going to buy some of these to make custom tix... Although Im sure Im not the only one.

They are the same size as our figures, they do not have a tix wheel or an identify markers. I was informed by a man who worked at Mattel that the figures are now just action figures and no longer a game. Kinda sad, but I was thinking that we should put together a team on the web forum to give those figures Attacktix stats, just for fun. Then once that is all compiled we can have a sheet to print out where people can glue on the labels for the figures. I thought it might help us have a little fun during the hiatus. Here are the figures. VideoI'd be interested to know for sure whether the game was canceled for legal reasons, or if they just gave up. They're good looking sculpts, but you can tell that they were meant to be more than just toys. On a side note, the ambient cluster of sounds on the video, if you turn it up, sounds like the audio clip of the Decepticons hacking the US governments computers! ;D I know, I'm a big nerd....

I'm pretty sure there were no legal issues. Heck, even in Radar's interview with Mr. Attacktix he stated that he was "looking forward to playing the game". If someone had ripped you off would you be looking forward to playing (and buying) their product?

If someone had ripped you off would you be looking forward to playing (and buying) their product? Possibly, if for no other Machiavellian reason than to provide ample fodder to the legal department Also, the legal interpretation of "ripped you off" may be substantially different from the designer's interpretation of "ripped you off". Designers may be more likely to forgive relatively subtle appropriations of certain game elements, knowing that they'll at least consider returning the favor if the new game has non-patented innovations in gameplay that might make the old game better. In contrast, legal has no reason not to defend what they collectively believe to be the company's current intellectual property, the chilling effects such actions might have on future gameplay innovations be d**ned.

All I know is, if it does come out as a toy and not a game, if a full conversion to tix document shows up online, it wasn't me.

I don't know if the Battleague is involved in this, but it might explain the delay.

I don't know if the Battleague is involved in this, but it might explain the delay. The owner of the Chinese factory that produced those toys just hung himself in his warehouse. And as it turns out, the lead based paint (the owner wasn't aware it was lead based) was sold to the factory owner by his "best friend" who was in the paint manufacturing business. (this according to news reports I've read) The toy recall is big news around here as Fisher Prices' headquarters is in our back yard (Buffalo, NY area)

Apparently, the situation is not directly related to Battleague. Here is a list of the MANY recalled products.

And BTW, it's hanged, not hung. ;D
I wonder if the Chinese are intentionally trying to kill Americans (or Westerners)?

I wonder if the Chinese are intentionally trying to kill Americans (or Westerners)? Get 'em while they're young, they're more vulnerable. Those stupid Americans, filthy round-eyes! The Mattel Chairman has the same last name as me? That's curious, it's not exactly a common name....

Personally I'm curious as to how the kids actually injest the magnets in some of these toys, from personal experience usually the magnet is hidden underneath the plastic skin (I know Polly is small but...). This is, of course, with the major exception of Magna-blocks.

From what I understand, the recent batch had the magnets not secured as well as they would like, so the magnets could come loose. And I could imagine a FEW little girls wanting to be like Polly Pocket. Polly Pocket had a magnet in her, the best way to be more like Polly Pocket would be to eat a magnet.
I'm not saying it's a good idea, just that I figure some kids might try it. They stick all kinds of things in their mouths.
My question is..."What is the big deal?" Are magnets poisonous? Polly Pocket is so small, I'd imagine if a kid ate part of one, it would come out naturally.

I believe that chocking hazards are the big concern here.
