I wonder if claims 1-35 were rules/game mechanics that were abandoned, or if they were just too broad of a category to be granted as part of the patent. Either way, I hope Mattel's attempt crashes and burns.

I don't know; if nothing else, it might be fun to bash the Boy Scout around a few times with Cap and the Avengers...

I hope that the Attacktix Patent rules all battle figure games so we don't see any competition. I don't have any personal problems with Mattel, but if they try to make a knock off of Attacktix, I hope they get their pants sued off...no, I mean literally, that they would owe so much money that they need to sell their pants to help raise funds. Then no one will try to rip off the Attacktix brand again. It Mattel can't produce the figures, it might just leave the ability of Hasbro to make the figures. I'd love to have Optimus Prime shoot down Super-Man for his traitorous ways,...going to Mattel......grrr

I feel completley diffrent on this. I feel that the competition is what we need.
Healty competition is usually never a bad thing. This way we can get better figures produced at a better rotation than what we do now.
Not only that, I imagine that the Battle League could possibly bring others into the game that maybe never heard of Attacktix.

Ah, a kind of 'gateway drug' to the hard stuff that is Attacktix, eh?
...I've REALLY got to stop posting half-asleep...

I completely agree with you, greyelephant. The free market teaches "competition = innovation = better product = consumer happiness". As I said before, I hope this forces Hasbro to kick things into high gear with the Attacktix brand.
I also just found out that Batman is in the starter set for these things. Oh, how the temptation shall be awful...

I hope that DC is even better than Attacktix and I'm forced to abandon Tix for a better alternative. I agree with GE and Grievous (WOW! Twice in a week!) 100% - let free market forces flow. On the other hand, I hope they are not blatantly knocking off the 'Tix as that would be immoral and illegal...and crush a small developer's hopes of coming up with a similar but better alternative.
Hasbro needs to bring their 'game' up, perhaps this young upstart that Mattel has developed will give them the kick in the pants they need. I think it's pretty blatant, though, that they are knocking off 'Tix. I did some online research and this has been kicked around for almost 2 years...I'll bet the Mattel Legal Dep't was the delay reason. I mean, Marvel --> DC...what's next? Star Wars --> Star Trek?

Considering that Mattel, if my memory is certain, DOES hold the license for Star Trek toys, I wouldn't be surprised...
Though I'll admit I wouldn't mind a Worf striker using a Bat'Leth...

Or, alternatively, what about them making Go-Bots, or Power Rangers..wait, that's Bandai...
The point is that they should make a competitive game - look at Pokemon, then YuGiOh. That made them raise the bar and move into different fields. Same with D&D and then Axis and Allies, which spawned BattleTech from FASA, as well as ShadowRun (which has easily become the #1 RPG based in the Neuromancer/Cyberpunk genre) and WarHammer 30K.
It's all about free market, and I hope they do well. Chances are they'll botch it though...

Wow! Me, Superfly, and Grievous all agree on something. Isn't that one of the signs of the Apocalypse?
I don't foresee a lawsuit either. I do foresee me probably buying some of these though. Something about that Batman is irresistible. I just have to have him and nobody else. Yeah, right, that is what I said about Attacktix, isn't it? ;D

Dude, I agree with most things that you guys say. It's just that I'm more vocal in my disagreements.
Mattel will not get sued for this, as sfx5000 said. If you can get sued for something that resembles an earlier product, George Lucas would have his pants sued off by all those people who wrote the various myths and legends that Star Wars inspires. DC and Marvel would be eternally suing each over because certain heroes have powers that are similar. Hot Wheels and Matchbox would be in an eternal dance of death over who is allowed to make miniature cars.
To think that Mattel will get sued for this is like thinking any of the above could actually happen.

Hey guys, I don't have any inside information when it comes to anything related to this, so I'm not trying to infer anything by posting here. However, I do follow "industry news" pretty closely, and here's a sample of what's going on now... Wizards announces patent on CSGWizKids files suit in responseSo it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

I'm sure there's more to the story than we're hearing, but it looks to me like WotC is getting a bit greedy.

Wow. I'm sure there's more to the story than we're hearing, but it looks to me like WotC is getting a bit greedy. WotC? Greedy? Naaaaah. ($30+ for a thin D&D book? I don't feel bad about pirating those on Limewire... or I wouldn't feel bad if I did such a thing. Which I don't. Honest) I love DC, but will probably pass on this game... unless they make a Booster Gold and Ted Kord Blue Beetle.
