That elevator is awesome ! I did think of it, I just don't have the skills. Can the figures go on the elevator without you having to lift them up a little?

ALAS! The battleground, which I call "Nar Shaddaa Spacedocks" is complete. The elevator requires no assistance, even for Thing and Hulk, which are quite heavy. I ended up using a 12V 300mA power supply, which works well for 90% of figs, and I initially tried a 18V 1.5A power supply which tossed Grievous about 3 feet in the air and broke the whole motor assembly. So, I CAN put more juice to the unit, but I'd rather not. I built this assuming a few things, like that the opponent will NOT lose track of 30 and 40 pointers, hence the fact that some spaces are purposefully too small for large and medium base figs to fit through, such as on the left side of the elevator building and the smaller opening in "Greedo's Import/Export" facing the elevator, below the longest catwalk. The entire battlefield is painted with flat Grey Krylon with a bazillion (3 cans in total) coats of Crystal Clear Acrylic clearcoat (matte finish on the table, satin on the buildings) for durability and ease of cleaning. Here's what you've all been waiting for, and again, thanks to everyone who read this and Sol's "Command Post Idea" thread for the support and advice.Bare board for regular attacktix play demarcated for starting points, figure areas, and mid-point (for ranging movement): Above View, from the side: Closer view, from opposite end (empire side): Interior of "Greedo's Import/Export": AND THE VIDEO TOUR!!!!!!!!!!video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1717080482985396753 Finally, a Video of Grievous Tooling around on the battlefield. Not great footage as I had to get it done and get back to work, but it does show the elevator in operation: video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9191178517459419588

LOL! That's awesome. Is it really heavy?

No, the elevator is about 2lbs. , the CPs are about 4 oz each, the Tie Landing (which seperates completely from the catwalk connecting Greedo's and it is about 1 lb., and the most heavy, the catwalks/Greedo's is about 2.5-3 lbs. Its entirely made of poplar 1-1/4"x3/4" framing and 2/7ths thick Luon board. Very light....the spaclke (yes I cleaned the walls up with spackle) and the paint are likely the heaviest part - I REALLY painted the heck out of all of this.
<edit> Perhaps you meant the entire thing....each individual building is free-standing, and the table is exactly that, a table I built many moons ago...it's VERY heavy, probably about 85 pounds. the top is a 4'x4' 3/4" Oak Plywood sheet, and the frame is pine 2'x4' construction with 16" joists. It was originally (at my old house) a part of a raised floor in my basement (which was prone to flooding) and my OFFICE was on it. ;D As far as each individual building, I designed it with portability in mind as that table is used for cards, smoking, and as a bar, some nights. Smoking in the house is not permitted (I've a 5-year old daughter) so the garage or back porch is the 'smoking section'. When it rains or is chilly, we sit in the garage. ConaChris is over all the time (or I go there) and so I made it into a 'Attacktix Lounge' for us as he's an enormously tall guy and we've not any area in the house to play that would accomodate his height. Gotta love the big fella!

Anyone coming thru the Cincinnati area can PM me and let me know when - you can roll on through for a few matches (or a day's worth!) anytime I'm home. 18 and over that is - no kids allowed here!

Wowsa! Awesome Pete. Nice job. Can't wait to get back over there and play.
I like the additional "pads" you set up for the Backups and Vanquished areas as well. Good idea!

That's very cool, Superfly! Seeing Grievous cruise around the playing field made it much easier to imagine it in action. It definitely sparks the imagination of what could be done, although you've set the bar pretty high

Thanks Yag! I am planning on making 2 more - One is Mos Eisley spaceport, which will be entirely walled in except for a small area at the start points, with buildings and rooftops...that one will have true stucco/adobe walls, and the other will be a striker-and-shooter balanced arena with a mazelike layout, but no exterior walls surrounding the thing. Both of these will be fixed down to a sheet (or maybe two 36"x18" or four 18"x18") of 1/2" MDF for portability and strength against flex. Will update these as they arrive in seperate threads.
