Yes, the movie is almost a year away. Nothing wrong with starting a thread now.
So, is anyone else excited for this movie? I, for one, and completely stoked. Robert Downey Jr. was a COMPLETELY perfect choice for Tony Stark. I mean, not only for the very similar looks, but even the actor himself in real life has a Tony Stark kind of character to him. It's amazing.
I originally had my doubts about Jon Favreau as the director, but then I read an interview online with him. Here's a highlight:
We have futurists that we deal with and the hardest thing is to maintain a certain level of plausibility. I think a lot of directors come onto comic book movies and say, “Oh, it’s a comic book. All constraints are removed from me. It’s not reality anymore.” They feel free to just color outside the lines in every area. I think the trick is that you have to use enough, either real science, or at least create a level of plausibility so that you only have to buy certain things as an audience. Everything else is intuitive and makes sense. I think that we definitely exaggerate science, but at least we create rules in this movie. Science has changed, too. This book is from the early ’60s and they talk about transistor power. That was Stan Lee’s thing—the power of transistors. “With transistor power I’ve tripled my strength!” Well, that doesn’t mean anything anymore, transistor power, and so what’s repulsor technology? What new technology are we on the cusp of now that is mysterious enough to be magical, but still steeped in science enough that it doesn’t feel completely arbitrary?
This, my friends, is why I am anticipating this movie so much.
