iesb.net/index.php?option=com_conte...4&Itemid=99Transformers. He says that a cut of the film went to the MPAA and came back with big rated R attached. Not because of sex or language, but because of intense action and violence (awesome!). Shia says Spielberg came to the rescue and went in to argue his point and got it knocked down to a PG-13.

Yes, but an R rating means that they'll lose all the tickets sold to kids who would want to see the movie and also they'd probably lose merchandise sales from those same kids who would have no idea what the heck the Transformers are from because they can't see the movie. PG-13 is the logical rating to shoot for with a film like this.

Yes, but how about parents who take their kids thinking that it's just a PG-13 movie that really should have been rated R. It's not fair to the consumers, especially parents who have to feel guilty later for even exposing their kids to extreme violence. If they had to send Steven Spielberg to argue about the rating, then it probably deserved R in the first place.

I never said that I agreed with sending someone in to try and knock down the rating in order to increase sales, just that I understood the logic. Also, no parent should let a child under 13 see a PG-13 movie unless they feel that they're ready in the first place so the whole "exposing kids to extreme violence" is sort of tamed by the fact that the parents know that the film is supposedly aimed for teenagers so any parent in their right mind SHOULD think before letting a six year old or whatever see this movie.
Another sad fact is that generally by the time a kid has gotten to the age where their parents would consider letting them into a PG-13 movie they've already seen much worse on television or played worse on video games. Kids are getting desensitized to violence sooner and sooner these days.
Basically, it is quite sad when marketing comes before protecting children but I still understand why they wanted the PG-13 rating. It's the most logical rating to try and get. However, they should have achieved the goal by filming a PG-13 film in the first place and not by making an R-rated movie and then convincing someone prestigious to knock it down to PG-13.

I was pretty surprised by the near R rating.... I know they want kids in there, buying tickets and products and all. But would the R really stop the merchandicing? I mean, look at Robocop. That had swearing, a little nudity, and gore, gore, gore! (TFs will probably be mostly 'bot-on'bot violence, so I doubt there'll be much blood flying around) But still, Robocop spawned toys and all that crap... even before they made the Robocop cartoon. So who knows. Ya know how 7-11 always has slurpee cups and flavors related to the big summer blockbusters? Well, I'm kind of hoping they have TFs this summer. I know it's cheezy, but I'm looking forward to drinking my Energon Slurpee (some kind of Mountain Dew, I'm sure) out of a lenticular-art Slurpee cup with Megatron transforming on it. Oh, there goes my blood sugar! Wooo!

Aliens was an 18 over in the UK but that didnt stop toys from the film being sold to kids, transformers wll probably be the same if not werce

i think id prefer it that way.
They could do a child frendly version for cinematic release then release a child freindly and adult version (im not on about dirty films before anyone says anything) onto dvd
