I am as big of a Transformers fan as anybody on this board, but I have mixed feelings about the upcoming movie.
On one hand I'm a huge Transformers fan and collector, and making a major motion picture could be the greatest thing ever for the franchise.
On the other hand I'm also a movie geek, and if you asked me who I hate more than anyone else in movies, I would answer Michael Bay. That answer has nothing to do with the upcoming Transformers movie, I've hated Michael Bay for a long time now. I've hated him since "Bad Boys" and "The Rock".
I'm attending Botcon next year where I'm most likely watching the premiere of this movie. I still can't say whether I'm excited or not.

I just watched a couple of trailers, and I'm not incredibly impressed. The CG is not bad for the most part, actually it's pretty good. But I have to say it doesn't look promising. I can't believe they actually decided to put the robots in with real people! Was it like this in the old TV show?

The original cartoon was about 90% Transformers, 10% Humans. Spike and Sparkplug were mostly just background characters, the Transformers did all the action.

I dont know why you would hate Michael Bay so much. I really like bad boys, the rock was sweet, armageddon was pretty decent, pearl harbor sucked, bad boys 2 sucked, and I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the island.
I remain hopeful, because in my opinion Bay is hit or miss... And really I think he has hit more than missed. And you cant say that Bay doesnt know how to make an action flick, and really when you boil it down thats all a transformers movie is going to be (I hope at least).
The thing that bugs me the most about Bay's involvement is every time I see a trailer it says "transformers a Michael Bay film". Like hes such a great producer, his name being tagged on the title is going to fill seats.
Personally, if I were to name a movie mongol I hated... It would be Oliver Stone. :\

I just hate big stupid action movies above all else, and Michael Bay is the poster child for those. Not to say that I don't enjoy action movies. Two of my favorite recent movies are Batman Begins and Sin City, and I really liked King Kong. My favorite movie of all time would have to be Kill Bill. I just hate the overbudgeted dumb explosion type of movies, which describes anything by Michael Bay.

Im trying to remain hopeful for the movie, but after seeing a trailer the other day over at IGN.com, I wasnt all that impressed with the quick glimpses of the robots either. Im much more excited about Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four 2, Spdiey 3 and the animated Iron Man movie that is out on DVD today.

im more worried about the "NEW" transformer fans that will spring from the film, and then having them say,
'the older ones look rubbish'
Coz i know i'll spend the next few months beating some sense into them

Well I have been a transformers fan since I was a kid, and this movie has renewed my interest in them. I hope the movie does this for more people, cause the franchise could use a good kick in the rear.

Yes, this is a very different Transformers world than the one in the old TV shows. It almost feels more like a Godzilla movie with mechanical monsters instead of a dinosaur... Somehow the actual "transforming" and ability to transform is not the key point anymore, it's now more focused on the fact that these things are huge and humans have to deal with them somehow.

Somehow the actual "transforming" and ability to transform is not the key point anymore, it's now more focused on the fact that these things are huge and humans have to deal with them somehow. That is the most interesting point I've ever heard anyone say about the upcoming Transformers movie. In all of the cartoons, TV and movies, previously starring the Transformers the Transformers themselves were the protagonists and antagonists of the show, and the show was scaled for them. The humans were just bugs hovering at their feet, and just supporting or background characters. Its also been true for all of the comics aside from possibly the most recent IDW comics based on Transformers coming to Earth. This movie is a fundamental change to just about every Transformers story up to this point. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I still hate Michael Bay though.
