I've developed a strategy by which you can take down an AT-RT with just one shot from a striker, preferably either Mace Windu or Count Dooku. Position your figure in front of the AT-RT like so: His saber hand should be in front of the hole in the target on the AT-RT's right leg, and his saber's tip should overlap the end of the target on the left leg of the AT-RT. Furthermore, his saber should be parallel with the top edges of the targets and about 1 cm away from them. Next, turn the figure's base as far around as you can, holding the tip of his saber and keeping the saber parallel to the targets. Now, let it fly. The AT-RT will either fall down or fly off the playing field. Because Mace Windu and Count Dooku's saber arms are held straight down, they have the best chance of completing this attack successfully (more than 90% of the time). Starter Vader can do it about 65% of the time, but his arm often bends in a weird way to do it. With slight changes in positioning, Obi-Wan and Ki-Adi-Mundi can do this about 50% of the time, but beware of breaking off Ki-Adi-Mundi's hand with this technique. Again, with slight changes in positioning, Agen Kolar can do it maybe 20% of the time, and Yoda might do it 10% of the time. I've not been able to do this with Armored Vader. ETA: Woo! 100th thread!

there are a few places on the at-rt figure where it can be taken down by one shot from a 20 or even 10 point figure, never mind a 40 point force blaster. wookie scouts are perfect for this task, as they are tall and have longer launchers to reach underneath the mech. if you can place the gun where the projectile is already touching the at-rt before you shoot, the acceleration will be the same, but the impulse will be greater (if my memory of physics class is accurate), and the rt will topple over. a couple spots are the circular, recessed area where the missles are slotted, and under the "fender" looking thingies on either side. i don't know if this counts as a kill under "official" rules, but that combined with the wookiee slap to the inside of the at-rt's knee makes the "overpowered" walker a lot easier to deal with, especially considering its shin targets are bogus to begin with.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the shin targets, myself. I've found that WOOKIEE RAGE! (tm) directed against the outside of the AT-RT's knee works quite nicely, too. I hadn't thought of a lot of shooter strategies, mostly because I'm a much better striker than I am a shooter:)

That force blast to the missle trick works out well.

Unless, of course, your opponent insists on using it to fire every...single...turn. Then it doesn't work so well. Rarely, I can hit the little lip above the missile rack and make it tumble down, but that's quite a fortuitous occasion.

I think it's pretty easy to use.

I never aim for those shin guards with my blasters anymore. It does seem to be an effort in futility. Depending on the striker, I too go for a single shot kill on the AT-RT. I've found the Wookie strikers, Mace, and Vader all have a nice powerful swing that can actually topple the thing from the side without even pointing at the shin guards if you twist the figure all the way back, base included, and then position the hand/saber barely up against the legs. The force those guys smack it with send it crashing down! Yet to try it with a Boga

I've had surprisingly little luck getting an AT-RT down with one Boga tail thwack. However, she can definitely get the shin targets down when they're struck with the midsection of her tail.

The first nite that my girlfriend and I played with the AT-RT, I let her use it...being a gentleman and all(she needed the help). She looked forward to kicking my butt with her new toy, however, a stray missile from my wookiee commander hit her battle droid, bounced up and hit the AT-RT knocking it over with completely misdirected fire! The look on her face was priceless, and the look on my was of complete and utter confusion. Needless to say, sometimes a flubbed shot can turn into something cool. It can be done

Another method has only been done in "test" scenarios - 2 tix in from the end of a card table, in a non game situation.
I used a Series 2 starter Gen. Grievous, lined up directly across from the AT-RT. I position his missile in a + position (I have two postions: + for the AT-RT, x for extra accuracy) and fire between the two targets. Total take down every time.
