Every year the GI Joe & Transformers Collectors Clubs come up with some great exclusive figures for their conventions which run the gamut from simple repaints to minor re-sculpts (see below)
http://www.gijoecon.com/kc2009/09grouppreview.cfm
http://www.botcon.com/BotCon09/SOUVENIRfigures09.cfm
This got me to thinkin' (as I've been known to do from time to time)... just because our favorite game/toy line is dead (face it kids, it's dead) why can't we get ourselves some of the exclusive figure lovin'. The molds for most of the past figures must still be around & Hasbro has already shown us figure heads are pretty interchangeable. Why can't we get an exclusive set of...
Scout Troopers painted camouflage like Episode III Wookiee-planet troopers with a correctly painted Commander Gree.
The planned Series 5 Emperor (Palpatine's body with Sidious' head)
The planned Series 5 Kit Fisto (Mace Windu w/ Kit's head)
etc., etc., and I'm sure we could come up with a dozen more kit-based figure swaps.
Well, I was so curious about the logistics of getting this done I wrote into the Q&A over at galactichunter.com, and today I got the answer...
http://www.galactichunter.com/q_and_a/091026.asp
Yep, money. It always comes down to money. I figured as much but was holding some kind of outside hope that this might be our last chance to get some new figures. So if any of the 100 or so "guest" visitors we have per day (I still can't believe that over 100 people check out this site on a daily basis) is some kind of crazy multi-millionaire Attacktix fan - pony up the bucks!

Heh, thats a pretty interesting read (love the baroness figure)....
Looks like it would take a good chunk of change to pull this off... If I win the lottery, I would certainly donate to the cause.

So I've been away, couple of deals went south, and I was broke, lol. Sucks to be me sometimes.
But anyway... You bring up a point I've thought about a few times...
For those figures that are fairly not so involved in making, ie, Kit Shooter, S5 Emp, etc.. What if "we" made them?
IE Someone make Casts of the heads, and get the pre-existing body and swapy swapy, painty painty, done.
I'm hopefully going to show some more G1 TF Attacktix in the coming weeks/month.

I've also thought the same thing. It seems that every month or so some small independent "company" comes out with kits to add to existing Transformers (like these)
http://tformers.com/transformers-/12542/news.html
http://www.robotkingdom.com/services/esh....UMKIT-3&lang=us
And Galactic Hunter is always encouraging people who ask if we'll ever see Star Wars playsets (like the Death Star) to produce their own but just call it "Space Station" playset instead of Death Star (for obvious copy right issues)
As long as we werent making a profit on them we could probally produce some ourselves - now we just need someone with the technical skills.

Superfly was always good at that sort of thing - head strong when it comes to actually creating stuff and figuring out the technical/mechanical side of producing things. I'll bet he could pull it off! Now where has he been lately....?

Well if there was enough interest, I still am trained/skilled/educated in all manner of plastic and mold production.

I figure once we get the ball rolling interest will pick-up. If you would like to take on the plastic part I could provide labels/stickers as I work at a sign making/digital printing company and would get things super duper cheap.
Here's a general idea that I think will make it easy for all involved (I could be wrong about the 'easy' part but it's a start). In fact, now that I think about it, it might differ from figure to figure but anywho...
I say we start with a predetermined "mini-set" with (just a guess) 10 - 12 figures. These 10 - 12 figures would have an agreed upon name, point cost, special power, special power ratio, etc. - special power ratio should just be determined by the base & legs we use for a specific figure, for example: if we use series 1 anakins legs for a new figure his base (because it fits his legs so well) should just determine the new figures special power ratio and we can just slap the existing base on, etc.
Let say for example we were making a Kit Fisto force-blast figure. This could go several ways:
1) You mold and produce the figure strait up and members would receive an un-painted, no base figure with all necessary stickers (front, back & bottom of base) and painting suggestions (colors, paint type) would be here online. And then that member would just cannibalize their old Mace Windu and use his base.
Since molding & putting shooting mechanism in his shooting arm would be pretty tricky we could...
2) have members send you their old Mace Windu figures and you could do a combination of kit-bashing (taking his old arm & perhaps base) and combining that with new molded parts and members would received the figure with stickers, etc.
3) since this is just a custom figure with a head swap members could do their own customizing at home and print out all necessary stickers from files they find here or get stickers from me. Or if they don't want to/can't cannibalize their old figures perhaps they just get a new, un-painted Kit Fisto head from you.
As you can see it might be complicated on a figure to figure basis, but I think the universally agreed upon figure set & stats would be a good base to work from and people could get figures from us or customize their own, etc. The plan needs some polishing but we're bright kids I sure we can come up with something.

I like the third option, we just need to come up with a special power that we all like. (and agree that they will be tournament legal at the next event one of us hosts.) I would like to go ahead and state that any figure that is agreed upon as a custom figure on this site will be allowed in any "Ultimate Galactic Showdown" tounament I run.

The third option will work for most figs, but what about unreleased figures butterscotch might have?
In that instance, if he can/wants to pull it off, we'd have to go with something along the lines of: members receive an unpainted Snowtrooper (for example) with decals but no gun or base and there would be online suggestions for which gun & base to cannibalize and paint suggestions.
With the Snowtrooper, we actually have two figures we can produce... the Snow Trooper and the Clone Marine http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/c/ce/Galactic_marine.jpg
Heck, I'd personally take almost 20 of those little buggers to have 10 of each.

In addition, if we do produce (with any option) any figures that are similar to Hasbro's unproduced figures I say we come up with our own takes on them. That way if Hasbro does, miracle pending, come out with those figures they won't be redundant (think of ours as Series 6 repaints of Hasbro's Series 5 figures)

SFX, good ideas. We don't need to stick to the figures already pre-produced. We could make our own, we could decide to make a Jawa Jedi with force push if we wanted, or find some Star Wars comic book Bounty Hunter that has a light saber. There is really no restricting us. Or we could do some more conservative figures. I have always liked my custom Anakin Skywalker with a force push (Darth Vader force push arm, pre suit) and a (Anakin Skywalker) light saber. That would be a cool custom for everyone to make.

How about this...everybody that wants to, may come up with ONE figure they want to make and if it gets at least 3 *member votes "for" and less than 2 moderator votes "against" (to help prevent figures that are way too powerful) then it becomes a figure in our Joe Attacktix Series 1. (!!!)
Figures must have a base size, power and percentage already in use, so a easy swap is capable. Name, class, and group, and point value can be changed with a front sticker.
*Members must have Positive Karma and have been a member since before Nov 2009.
How does that sound?

A good Bounty Hunter could be 1. Aurra Sing from Boba Fett: Maze of deception 2. Durge 3. Cad Bane [img][/img]
